Possible Spring 2014 Chicagoland Detail Day?

I'll be there @4:30, leaving Palatine in 5 minutes! Oh and BTW I need to eat when I get there, I'm wearing and old school racing jacket and a yellow Tail of the Dragon t-shirt.

Robert, I'm at a carshow at Finn McCools and have heard a couple Genesis' with exhausts, YOU MUST DO AN EXHAUST! They really sound great!!

Oh yeah to get the thread back on point a bit I went to the Car Cave today and went over some things with Jeff, things are looking really good for the event! Its probably a good time to remind people that if you wanna donate extra items from your collection to do so and it would be greatly appreciated but NOT expected.

Also we're going to be ordering pizza around noon and try and bring a 5 or singles if you could to make things easier, ok guys, thanks. We'll be ordering different pizzas, bread sticks a salad and wings, a little bit of everything!

John, I ran into some of your fellow Fusion guys at the show too, nice guys! One guy has a pearl white one with the sport grill, its the smoked chrome one I was talking about. Loved his tire/wheel combo too! Also met a couple w/ the new Fusion w/ halo healights, nicely done.

I really enjoyed this show and I envision our Detail Day to be just like this show from the standpoint of variety of cars and people coming together to enjoy the car culture and in our case the detailing culture, something I wish more car enthusists cared about more!

You went to Chitown Meets! Those were my brothers from Fusion Nation. I was supposed to go with them, but had to work instead.

I was there, very nice guys too! They have clean cars, do they know about AG?

Walking around at the show made me think of the thread that someone brought up in the past about AutoGeek.net business cards. As we all know business cards aren't free but my God there are sooo many other cars at shows that are in great need of attention! These are the people that would benefit greatly from our Detail Day but I would never invite people like that out of the blue to our event but giving them some type of way to checkout AG would be great.

Seeing that our list is at 20 some of the names are pretty new so I was thinking maybe you guys could tell us a little bit about yourself and/or your ride, this way we kinda know you a little bit better, a way to "break the ice" so to speak. Its LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AWAY!

Thanks for coming out guys, ...

Sorry I missed it guys. I just excavated a foundation for a house and with the rain and seepage, I was pumping mud all day...will still try for May 18th.

so I was thinking maybe you guys could tell us a little bit about yourself and/or your ride, this way we kinda know you a little bit better, a way to "break the ice" so to speak.

I'm 44 and live off 83/I55 area SW burbs. My ride is a 2014 "Soul Red" Mazda CX5 GT. Nothing racy or too fancy, just want to keep it looking as nice as possible. Got it in February. May 17th is my birthday so we might do a get together in LakeInTheHills near the car cave, so I am hoping to make it. My "detailing" skills are limited to simply trying to keep my stuff looking nice all my life and being a "hands on" guy. I've got a GG6 which I used with Menz FG400 to shine up my father's work truck. There were some pretty bad gouges on the truck everywhere but it removed 90% of the ugliness, thread below with some basic descriptions of what I did:

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/79369-menz-not-menz.html

I have some assorted LC CCS pads, some Prima Hydro which I like, some Menz FG400, Menz SF4000, IronX and a few other assorted products (collinite Fleetwax, etc). But I have never been into cars or "detailing" per-se. So I'm sure I have a lot to learn. I plan to clay, ironX, then SF4000 the Mazda. I nano-coated my wife's 2013 Toyota Corolla Sport a week after she got it (didn't polish it first - didn't know I needed to!). Still looks great. Like glass - looks amazing (though someone just hit her car in the back corner). I hope to polish most of it away and re-coat it at some point. A pic of my new Mazda below...look forward to meeting you guys.

No problem Gokite, the Strat's get together was just olne of those "if you can make it" events, May 18th is one where I hope everyone who can, does! You sound like the perfect person for our event and although you say your ride isn't anything too fancy I for one love them, then there's the color you chose, one of the top 3 colors squirted onto a newer car on the road today, at an event like ours it will get A LOT of attention for sure!

I hope you can make it out for sure!!!

^^ New Mazda's are nice indeed. The CX-5 is way bigger in person than pics.

Ah, yes exhaust is a possibility in the near future, right now i have bigger priorities though. :)

Thanks for dropping off the items ahead of time, that is really nice of you to do that!

Do any of you noobs to the site have any questions, pretty good time to bring them up, week and a half away!

Also a good time to remind people to bring cash to chip in on lunch, sorry to be redundant about this but bear with me so this part of the meet goes smoothly, think of it like when you get together to watch football on Sunday, LOL!

Looks like the weather is shaping up too, FINALLY!!

I live in Jofield which is the border between Joliet and Plainfield.
I'm head of customer service for one of the largest wholesale optical laboratories in the U.S. and have been with that company over 30 years.
Detailing is my zen and keeping the family's cars clean relaxes me. My G8 is my daily driver but I still try to keep it looking better than the day I bought it. While I've been detailing for years and have been known to do one on one training sessions I know I will learn something at our Chicagoland Detail Day. Here's hoping for sun and warm weather. Accuweather is showing 77 and cloudy but that is too far away to rely on the forecast.

Mr. Paul, the guy who wants my license plate, LOL, looking forward to meeting you and checking out the G8 for sure!

I think my biggest question has to do with IPA wipedowns. I've read the articles for the different concentrations and I get it, more like it scares the crap out of me and how necessary is this step and are there alternatives? I know guys like Larry from ammo NYC does it and Garry Dean, but my car is jet black, brand new, and has enough dealer installed marks don't want to do more damage.

Unless youre actually polishing the car, an ipa wipedown isnt necessary. You perform the wipedown to remove polishing oils and fillers from the paint to make sure that when you coat, or wax, or seal, the surface is as clean as possible
