And how high or I guess low is the risk of damage to the paint or clear? You hear people using all sorts of concentrations from straight out of the bottle to as low as 11 or 12% IPA. Do all concentrations work as well, can one accomplish and get the same results with a pure 70% IPA as you would with a 50% cut with water and brought down closer to 10%?
 
I use 70% cut with water to make it like 13%. Ive never had a problem, never seen damage. Im not saying that it doesnt happen, just saying that ive never encountered it

Okay decided I have had my GG 6" for a few weeks and I wanted to try it out see what I could get done... let's just say it did NOT go well! I'll list my tools used. GG 6" DA, 5" backing plate, 5.5" Chemical guys microfiber orange pad, and V36 polish. I did all the prep work, washed clayed, did slow passes over lapping, primed the pad, waited till the polish flashed and became clear. Results? None, no correction, not a single scratch removed nothing, I couldn't believe it. I used speed 6 for the polish it was Def rotating, speed 1 to spread... well after I did , my hood I gave up, used V7 on the car packed up and went inside. What's odd is when I pulled the pad off the backing plate, the very center had actually melted away and there was about a 1" hole in the center of the pad, backing plate is fine no damage.... so what gives? Where did I go wrong? Is is the tools, my technique, the car, I just can't believe after all that there was zero change and I destroyed a pad.
 
I put some sample bottles together of Meguiar's D156 (Express Spray Wax) and Meguiar's M135 (Synthetic Spray Detailer).

This is exactly what the detailing day is all about, we've got Paul and Ron offering their experience with the group, they'll show you exactly what to do. That said, I don't know what to say because it looks like you did everything right and have good products for sure. I just used my GG6" recently w/ great success, same success was achieved with other types of pads too. Come on out and we'll figure it out, trust me, its well worth it to spend the day with us!

Starting time next Sunday? That's a good drive for me so I'm starting to plan my route and day now.
 
Yeah, anytime after 8:30 a.m. is the official start time for everyone to show up. Once you get there look for me, the stocky, bald guy with glasses to get your raffle ticket for the giveaways. Speaking of that, we'll do that after lunch, just a heads up.

Oh don't worry about that, plenty of pics will be taken. Speaking of that, when I get home from the event on Sunday I will make a thread just for pics and comments about the event, so look for that and we can have a single source for our photo dump!

Ill be bringing mine too, Im incredibly new to DSLR, but hopefully ill get a few nice picture. Im going to try to polish my WRX and apply Cquartz UK if i get a chance before then, but if not, it will look like this

Glad your coming out to the event, you'll enjoy the variety of cars and people coming out, really looking forward to it! Temps for this Sunday appear to be 67 and partly sunny, I'll take it, sure it could be another 10 degrees but its all good!

I'll gladly trade polishing lessons for photography lessons.

As has been said I'll help anybody I can not that I'm an expert or anything but have been polishing cars for over 30 years now so I know a little bit about it, but I still continue to learn almost daily. I had brought up the idea of a mini clinic on polishing from reading some of the posts from you guys and my thoughts on it are just a simple 15-20 minute deal, just the basics to try and help with some of the intimidation a few guys are having.

From there if anyone would like more info or some one on one time I would be happy to help, no guarantees I'll have all the answers. But between Paul and myself i think we should have most things covered.

Its totally up to you guys if you would even be interested in such a thing. Just let me know so I can put some thoughts together before the day. We sort of did something very similar at the first meet and it was good. There were a few guys that had never used a rotary and finally got to put their hands on one without fear of a trip to the bodyshop :props:


BTW I will have a sponsor trim product with me which everyone will get samples of, a 15 dollar value , I will also have a few full size bottles also for sale at a very reduced price should anyone like it and want more. I don't think its right to use the product name here as AG also sells it.
