I have a roadster convertible and when I first got it the paint, although clean, was nothing to write home about. Just your common light grey color that displayed zero depth, jetting or gloss.

Since I learned about auto detailing there was some success in getting a reflective and shiny appearance but it just looked so dry and dull still. I spent so much money buying different products and invested hours washing, claying, polishing, etc. Still mediocre results. Don't get me wrong--the car looked clean and well maintained--but it just wasn't enough to draw the attention I wanted from people.

Over the course of my trial and error there were two products that consistently gave above average results that were really noticeable--Pinnacle XMT 360 Spray Wax and Optimum Instant Detailer.

The Pinnacle made the paint reflective and radiant. Optimum's gloss enhancers further amped up the the reflections while adding slickness, depth and jetting. Up to this point I would use the Pinnacle or Optimum after washing to add that extra sex appeal. Then I'd cruise around town to gauge the public's reactions. A few people would always take notice if I used either product.

So one day I had an idea--why not experiment and use both after washing?

So the next morning that's exactly what I did. Rinseless washed first with Optimum No Rinse and Shine. After that I sprayed the Optimum Instant Detailer and began drying the car. Pinnacle XMT 360 Spray Wax served as the LSP and at this stage the paint was more than dripping wet--I mean it looked as though you could just jump in like a swimming pool. Gloss, jetting, depth, reflections, shimmer, radiance--it was all there! I was so amazed at the unbelievable results after just 30 minutes of work!

Driving home from the self-serve car wash I felt the satisfaction of finally achieving the wet look that once seemed impossible to have on my paint. On my way back I was shocked at how many people stared at my car. I mean neck-breaking head turns when passing and looks of astonishment at stoplights...I never got any attention like this before! It sort of made me feel like I was driving a car worth a million bucks. Nah, it just looks that way.

Pictures or it didnt happen! :-)

What you've done is just as bad as telling us your GF is an 11 out of 10 supermodel and then not posting pictures! Not cool! Lol!

Yes, I do owe you guys a visual :iagree:

Until I can get some photos up look at this car that Mike Phillips is working on:

Now imagine that same look on a light colored vehicle. That's close to the result I got. Let me also add that my paint isn't perfect. Swirls and scratches are there. But the combination of the detailer and wax seem to create a reflective, glossy illusion of flawless paint (even up close) and conceals imperfections in most lighting situations.

Perfectly polish your paint and it won't matter what lsp you have it'll look dripping wet.

MarkD51: very true...and as I don't post here very much I'm still learning, he he.

Valleyrider: I have two cars--one light grey, one black. I find the black paint looks awesome and streaks less with Wolfgang.

I agree with the perfect paint argument for a wet look. But my cars sit on the outside exposed to the elements and everything else that may introduce flaws into the paint. If you don't have the energy/time/resources to constantly buff/polish/wetsand away imperfections I think this could be a temporary solution to make it look good.

Glad to read about your success, hopefully this forum has been helpful....

Also just to note, it's easier to read text if you break it up a little. I wanted to read your first post but it was one huge block of text, so I edited it and broke it up a little to make it easier to read.

Just a tip...

That's great to have two of them, do you use one as a track day/ autocross car and the other as a daily driver? Or are they both just street cars?

I've been thinking of picking up a little miata or scion fr-s as well for autocross and track days since they handle nicely and are just a ton of fun to drive!

I will second the endorsement of XMT spray wax. For the price, its a darn good product. I have been using it regularly on my daily driver. I also use the XMT final finish instant detailer as a drying aid and that works well as well. For the price, (these products are often on sale) they are great value.

Thank You, Mike--I appreciate the help!

Perhaps one day I'll track them. For now I just love cruising around in both roadsters--a full view of the sky when the top is down...the sound of the exhaust note...and nimble handling that only a small sports car can give you.

Scion FR-S looks good and is a nice ride but the underpowered engine constantly reminds you that the chassis can handle a lot more power.

Miata is still king when it comes to fun, lightweight convertibles that are still affordable. They are the most tracked sports cars in the world I believe. Probably only the Lotus Elise can put a bigger smile on your face. But the Miata has practicality that the Lotus can only dream of. I use mine everyday as a daily driver because it's such a hoot to drive!

You're right! I have a gallon of both because they're priced so well. Optimum Instant Detailer and Opti-Clean is also cheap especially if you get the concentrate and mix your own.
