Picking the right compound/polish combo

Come spring I would like to correct the paint on my wife's black Sentra(lots of swirls/scratches) and my white GTI(new but the dealer washed it). I have several waxes, Poorboy's Natty Red, Adam's Buttery Wax, Klasse and Mother's Reflections. This Christmas I received the Porter Cable 7424xp. I since I'm a beginner what is the best compound and polish to use that is easy on the budget and easy to use. Any advice would be appreciated.

edit: From what I have seem from Poorboy's I really like the ease since I don't have a garage
 
From what I hear Wolfgang Uber Compound is very easy to use and very effective. I might pick up some myself to try.

As for polish, I just bought CarPro Reflect since a lot of people have been raving about it.

The WG Über finishes down so well, to a point you'll ask yourself if the second step is needed which it is but one could stop there if they really wanted to.
Low dusting, decent work times and no worries in gumming.
It's a little pricey but so worth it.

Meguiar's m205 is my go to Ultra Polish.
No dusting.

I've been really impressed with the blackfire total polish and seal. it's a one step, but gives great results! I've used it on a few cars now, all have really impressed me!
 
You cant go wrong with Meguiars 101/205 or Menz FG400/4000
 
Megs M105/M205 is my go to.
I've also had good luck with Chemical Guys V32/V34/V36/V38 polishes (for some reason when I first started everything had to be CG... I have since learned the error of my ways).
Honestly though, I think most people here will say you can't go wrong with M105/M205, great products, very user friendly, and give great results.
 
105 for a new guy is not the best product to start with its not easy to use for a new guy. I would stick with Menz or Wolfgang thats just my opinion. Once you get better at polishing then I would get 105.

Meguiar's Ultimate Compound (UC) might be a better choice, if a compound would even be needed.

Always go with the least aggressive product first:
A "Test Spot" is one of those mandatory processes that will help determine what'll be the best for each of your individual vehicles.

I love UC. Though I think its name "ultimate compound" is misleading. Sure it has some cutting power, and finishes often times LSP ready on some paints. However compared to real compounds like 101 or FG400, theres no comparrison when dealing with serious defects.

I use it when I need alot more cut than what 205 can offer, but not not as much cut as 101. Like you stated, test spot will determine the best approach.
 
On the GTI, try one-stepping with a Meguiars MF Cutting Disc and a SF4000 (or equivalent). You will get great cut and still finish amazingly on harder paints. The combo works great on a Rupes, but its possible that it is due to the large stroke.

I heard of this combination before. It seems Menzerna polishes go great with Meguiars MF discs.
 
And as for the pads just go with a white one for polishing and orange for compounding?
