I am a huge believer of learning from your mistakes but when it comes to car I think most of us would agree that less mistakes = better. I would love some input on what I did wrong?

I washed windshield using Stoner's Invisible Glass Cleaner, cleaned it with MF cloth.
Next used a clay bar with IGC as lubricant, cleaned it dried with MF cloth.
Applied rain-x ws treatment, cleaned it off with MF once there was slight haze on the glass.

It seems that after last step there were impressions on the ws after I was done wiping off rain-x. It's been raining a lot lately and it's been driving me insane. What were did I go wrong?

Rain X is tricky to use at times I would see if cleaning the glass again and drying the glass thoroughly would help if not you may have to remove the product,

Leave the rain x on the windshield longer. Like for an hour or so. Also make sure everything is evenly covered (you should easily be able to see where you've applied it while it dries). Then remove with a slightly damp MF and buff to perfection with a dry MF. This should give you long lasting results and a uniform appearance.

I wonder if Stoner's had anything to do with it. I normally apply Rain-X after washing the car with nothing else applied to the glass.

I usually apply rain-x twice, just to ensure even coverage. I also let it haze for about 30-60 minutes, before buffing off.

I use stoners invisible glass before cleaning with no issues. Bit maybe the clay lube prevented proper adhesion. I'd have really cleaned with stoners after claybar, then applied a coat horizontally , let it haze. Then apply a little more vertically, wait 30-45 minutes and then wipe off with a slightly damp towel and buff with a dry one after.

I think after the clay bar step you should have cleaned the window again with either Eraser or an IPA wipedown. There may have been clay residues still on the glass.

Also as others have said , let the Rain-X set a bit longer before wipeoff.

.

I did wash it off with stoners after claybar step. I am thinking it didn't leave it on long enough only 20 minutes

Yeah, just try to clean and reapply. Allow it to sit for a good 30 minutes.

The windshield has to be crazy clean before you apply any kind of sealant to it. Crazy clean as in the only thing the sealant touches is glass. No residue, condensation, or any other kinds of films can be present. Not to mention the psychrometry outside and on the glass surface must be at permissible levels for the product to work. What were the outside environmental conditions? What about the temperature of the work surface? (Most people don't check this...) Any other variables?

It looks like swipe marks exactly like clay bar movement. I'd say there was residual clay left on the windshield that thwarted the rain x treatment.

The good thing is rain x doesn't last long and is relatively easy to buff off.

I've never had to wipe Rain-X off after application. Neither have I had to use MF towels. I do one or two sprays on a paper towel and wipe over the window. No need to wipe off again as you would be removing the Rain-X itself. Wipe on and let it dry. Use as little as you can to cover the window leaving no residue that won't dry. Hope this helps.

I have applied Rain-X following the manufacturers instructions below. I only did a basic 2BM wash with plain old car wash soap.

Product Usage Instructions

Clean and dry surfaces before treating

Apply in temperatures above 40 degrees F

Apply Rain‑X® to a small, folded, dry cloth

Wipe onto exterior glass using a firm, circular and overlapping motion

Allow product to dry; a slight haze may appear

Reapply Rain‑X® to ensure complete and uniform coverage

Remove final haze with a dry cloth or by sprinkling water onto the haze and wiping with a paper towel

Making it too complicated.
