Thinking about trading in the CR-Z for a Fiat 500 Abarth, thoughts?

So I was leaving work yesterday, it was dark because it was a 10.5 hour day, and I noticed my p/s headlight was out. Well I'm the kinda guy who upgrades whenever possible, so I did just that. I got home and got on the computer and went to 500Madness and ordered myself a 5000K HID headlight kit from them. Our community isn't very big but these guys make special parts for these cars, so its not as cheap as other kits but its a quality kit, plug and play and is completely covered by a factory style'd cap, so no moisture gets in there. I went with 5000K to give it a little more "look" than the an OEM kit which is 4300K. I've seen nice 6000K kits but played it down the middle with the 5000K kit. Now I just hope it arrives soon because we've been busy at work and I don't like "ridin' dirty", LOL.

Was it HID from factory? Conversion kits are nice but often blind everyone because the HID capsules were not made to be used in a housing designed for halogen bulbs. And it's illegal but I have yet to hear of anyone being pulled over for having lights that are so bright drivers ahead of them can't see anything. But if you had HID there already and just replaced with a different temperature that's fine. 5000K sure looks better than 4300K but it produces less usable light. Back in the day when I was into messing with upgrades on my cars I had one kit installed that was 8000K. Very blue. Probably blinding everyone ahead of me. But I didn't know better then.

I have projectors halogens from the factory so because of the cutoff i should be fine and besides, 5000K is still going to be better than oem bulbs.

Those 8000+K bulbs are the worse, has to almost NO light output and just brings unwanted attention on to you!

12 total days for my HID to get from Carson CA to Chicagoland. I've been checking the status and it's made a stop in CA, AZ, NM and KS. Talk about the slow boat from China, what did my $12.99 go for? I didn't see an option for quicker delivery, maybe I'll ask next time. I hate leaving work when it's basically dark and only have 1 headlight

I guess I should've went back a bit further. I will say this again, they came right off with the Worx hydroshot, only 320 psi max.

So after installation, are you going to be off to cause trouble for the establishment? :p
 
So I attempted to install my 500Madness HID last night, instead of the usual Friday night wash. The key word is ATTEMPTED Luckily my hands are not that of Andre' the Giant but even still, tight working area on the passenger side! I go to the drivers side and it's a lot easier but then the cap that holds the ballasts doesn't wanna screw in (uses oem caps retrofitted with the ballasts)

Now I have to wrap a towel around them and drive over to my buddy Hectours for some help. It appears the coolant tank has to come out or get moved a bit to get the passenger side to fit in there.

That said I did turn them on and they look awesome I even turned them on when I had 1 installed, talk about dim and yellow. I haven't had HIDs in over 3.5 years when they were oem on my CRZ, I do miss them dearly. I just hope all goes well getting there and getting this lose end tied up🤤

It's all good now Monica, Hectour is moddding the bracket that's right on the back of the cap that contains the ballast. Now it's a real hot rod, "driveway engineering"

Hectour had to turn into "Hacktour" on the the plastic tank and bracket. Now he's using his drill press to make a new hole, beyond "driveway engineering"

I should clarify, it was initially hacked but everything smoothed out afterwards, Hectour is like that. Now I'm going to try to talk him into going to colds and coffee, see what I did there

I left my buddy Hectours around 7:20 p.m. this evening and man WHAT A DIFFERENCE in the lighting! I said earlier it's been 3.5 yrs since I had HIDs but it's like having them for the first time️They are so white, whiter than Kip Wingers teeth in the "Seventeen" music video
