We're picking up my wife's new car on Saturday and in preparation I picked up the Pinnacle Black Label kit. I will use the Wolfgang twins if I need to do some correction after the dealer "prep."

I am going with the coating since this car will be outside a lot and I want to keep it protected.

My question is can I / should I put a topper on the PBL?

I am a Zaino user on my other car and wondering if I can put my Z2 on top of PBL? Even after all these years I am still a Z fan and love how it looks and holds up. Will the Z6 be ok to use as well or do I need to get another Quick Detailer?

Thanks for your help.

It can be topped with sealant and/or wax. Best thing is not let the dealer prep it. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches that way

Welcome to AGO!

1) Don't have high expectations of dealer prep!

2) I would still wash and clay myself

3) Hopefully you won't need nothing more than the Finishing Glaze

Can PBL be layered? The answer is yes and the following thread sums up what I did. Several options at your disposal. Is it overkill, depends on your level of COD :xyxthumbs:

OK...Let's assume the application/curing of the PBL Coating to the new vehicle has been accomplished.

Now...You want to use Z-2 as "topper".

Without "preaching to the choir":
What steps must be performed for a vehicle's:
First-time Z-2 usage? That's right...Of course it's:
-The ZFX Flash Cure Accelerator Additive steps!! :xyxthumbs:

The question I have is:
Will the ZFX/Z-2 admixture have any adverse affects on the PBL Coating?

Thanks for the advice everyone! :dblthumb2:

That was what I wanted to do, but my wife is buying a car off the lot that's been out in the elements for who knows how long. When we test drove it, it was too dirty to get a good look at the paint.

I'll let them do their prep, so I'll be better able to inspect the paint.

I haven't used ZFX in years. The Z2 Pro cures pretty quickly on its own. On my car I used ZAIO as a base and put Z5 or Z2 right on top, no ZFX.

OK...You're not going to by Sal's recommendations: :nomore:

But the "base", in the new vehicle's case, is PBL Coating...not ZAIO...or any other "Z"- product.

Then, how about saying it this way:
Will the first-time use of Z-2 "properly bond" to PBL Coating without the use of ZFX?

From my minimal understanding of coatings and the one I am only personally familiar with is Opti Coat, but lets say PBL coating has the same characteristics such as Opti Coat.

I believe Opti Coat can be topped with with a wax or sealant, might not last long. However, from my understanding it should not be topped with a wax or sealant that you have let let dry and wipe off. For dramatic effect I'll say something like Collinite 476s. Mainly because you run the risk of abrading the coating little by little. (I am talking about Opti Coat here, but try and follow me guys)

So if PBL Coating is similar aren't you running the risk of also abrading it away buy applying a glaze, sealant, wax etc... that you have to let dry and buff off?

and if PBL Coating can be topped what makes it different then say Opti Coat that Opti Coat can't?

Opti Coat can be topped with a spray wax or sealant though... Like Opti Wax or Opti Seal. Not sure what other products are similar to those but I imagine they would work too. I actually use Pinnacle WW with Carnauba as a drying aid on my Opti Coated paint.

I once topped my Opti Coated car with Optimum Spray Wax but didn't see much difference so I just use it for customer cars...

I used the PBL Coating then waited according to their directions then put the PBL Sealant on and then topped it off with a high quality (Bouncer's Capture the Rapture) carnauba wax. It looks incredible!! I have a Black 2013 Mustang GT and it still looks wet even covered in dust. I would post pictures, however, I am very computer illiterate.

I like the PBL stuff and yes I am with 28one...do it yourself. I would never let a dealer touch my car when it comes to detailing!

If you were close by, I'd let you try BlackICE! Don't know if you let the dealership do your service work on the GT but if you do, make sure you let them know not to wash! They'll swirl it up for sure...

One thing I know for sure Art, with PBL sealant and BlackICE over the top, its not as glossy and super slick and PBL coating by itself. That's the first thing I noticed after apply PBl on my mother-in-laws Rav4. I think of it as extra layers of protection, yes its probably overkill but I don't care.

:iagree:
I am 100% with you 28ONE. In fact I let the service dealer know that when they do any service on my car and NOT TO wash it; I would give them a customer service rating of excellent regardless how they did on my car....LOL!! PS: You have great taste in cars!!

Thanks, I'd love a 5.0 but I also love not having a car payment! :props:

I think you're misunderstanding what ZFX is for. Its not needed for proper bonding. Its used if you don't want to wait several hours for the Z-2 or Z-5 to cure. ZFX mixed with those two polishes can be layered without the waiting.
