New puppy! :)

Beautiful sweet dogs. Congratulations. I hope his ears don't hurt.
I think Danes look adorable uncropped.
What do you mean "I hope his ears don't hurt" You are kidding, right? Of course his ears hurt! I have had several great Danes. I cropped the ears on the first dog and after that didn't do it on any of the others. Such a cruel thing to do just because you think it looks neat. You have such a cute dog, after looking at that sweet face I can't imagine you could bring yourself to do that.

My Weim has a cropped tail and I've never caught crap for it. It's an appearance thing. They look better with their ears cropped. Much like women getting nose jobs or implants, this is no different. His ears hurt a couple days and then all is normal.

Yeah I agree 100% seriously inhumane to cut dogs ears and tails. I'd never do that to a pet. If they could only talk for themselves.

Woman have a choice, you're dog didn't, you made the choice for him, and you know it only hurt for a couple days because he told you so?

As far as I know he's acting like a normal puppy. Very playful and energetic. He plays. Sleeps. Then plays some more. Doesn't seem like a dog that's in pain.

For those that don't care about the cropping, stitches were taken out today and he is doing well!

He sure is a beautiful dog. Maybe because I am not familiar with the breed but the ears just look kinda goofy, maybe he needs to grow into them a bit.
I just recently lost a dog myself, so I have been looking for a new dog. I want to get another Jack Russell. Anybody know of a good breeder? For the past couple weeks I have been checking all the animal shelters but its so hard to find the right dog there.

His ears will stand erect after a few months of taping them up. Right now they are recovering until Saturday. Saturday they will be taped up.

Sorry to hear about your recent loss :(

Sheesh those paws look big. Don't know to much about dogs but he sure looks like he is going to grow up and be a big pup! Congrats!

Oh...that pup will grow into them! Ours would double in size about every two~three weeks at that age.

When our Dane was that age, her paws were so big, she would stuble over them because she couldn't pick them up high enough, or they would get caught on the one next to it.

Another funny side effect of a dane that age is how heavy footed they are. When our pup would trot or run around the house on hard surfaces it sounded like we had a small pony thumping around. Luckily, she's much more graceful as an adult.

I like cats! Don't own one. But while growing up, we always had 2 cats and 2 dogs

No I was not kidding.
Just trying to not be judgemental.
I would never crop a dog's ears or dock its tail, but it's not my place to tell the OP what to do.
I know it's been very hard to tell lately, but in some respects it's still a free country.

Would it help if I said that he is prone to less ear infections now?

Dogs are so much better than people, truly mans best friend. My breed of choice is a Cocker Spaniel. Had one that passed away and found a rescue that specializes in them. Found a great new dog, so sweet and loveable, and already housetrained!

As far as nipping ears, dogs tend to heal very quickly, especially when they are being treated. My dog had two cracked teeth that needed to be extracted. I am sure it was uncomfortable for her for a few days, but within hours of bringing her home, her tail (whats left of it as it was cut as a puppy) was wagging and she was her normal self.

In this country, most young male infants are circumsized, they certainly dont have a say. Kinda the same thing. I would say most men who are, are probably glad they were, and dont remember having it done.

Here he is prior to tapping

And it will only sky-rocket from there!

Our girl was 39lbs when we brought her home at 10 weeks. Our neighbors couldn't believe that our 10 week old puppy was already bigger/heavier than most of their full grown adults!

One word of caution though. Because of the age/size difference, the pup has a hard time fitting in some situations. When we started obiedience training and socializing our dog at about 12~13 weeks we had to be very careful. She was far larger/heavier than other pups her age which lead to problems of the smaller pups being frightened, or potential she would injure a smaller pup. On the other hand, she did not have the maturity to handle herself around adults. The first year is an interesting time, but I don't think I could ever have another breed in my home.
