Writing your own detailing autobiography?

As a detailer, I feel we have a need to express ourselves and our work. Many of us, including myself, see our detailing jobs as careers in the field of art. Every vehicle is another piece of work we've completed, we've changed, we've improved.

That being said, I think an autobiography is a crucial element to detailers and a must have for your website. But not many people care about you. People care about themselves. So how do you gain interest?

I am working on writing my own person autobiography. This is all I have so far, but I think it is something decent. I plan on using my work and my detailing write-ups as some portfolio to reflect my works but for now, this will do.

What do you think?

For what it's worth...

Whenever I check out a detailer's website I always look for the "About" page and read it. I like to find out or learn about the detailer's background, training, experience, milestones or pinnacles, years of experience, etc.


I also like seeing what products they use as in, compounds, polishes, waxes as well as tools.

Might even be a good idea to list what forums you post your write-up too so potential customers can check you out. I'm a strong believer in posting well-written, well photographed write-ups for your work.

This is one of the reasons I wrote a bunch of articles on how to deal with pictures on forums for people that are in this for the long run including avoiding things like Photobucket and similar picture hosting sites like it.


That's just me though...

To me:
An autobiography conjures up a picture of someone putting pen to paper towards the end of their life's journey.
Perhaps to leave an easier reference of their accomplishments for their friends and relatives.
Perhaps to even make a few extra dollars by capitalizing on sales of their autobiography for their estate.

On the other hand:
I see an autobiography, as you have so designated, is more than presenting your legacy of accomplishments---which is nice to know, but sometimes takes some research on a person's part to prove.

Rather, IMO, it presents an excellent opportunity to analyze oneself:
Attempt to reflect upon the past; discover new truth(s) about themselves.

You may be too young, chronologically speaking, at this point in your life to write a full-length autobiographical book...
But what new insights, new meanings about yourself, might be left undiscovered without writing such an autobiography?

A person will never know until they do it.
That includes me.

Thank you Mike! I didn't see any threads similar to this one. A lot of threads talk about selling service but very few really talk about selling yourself. I probably should go back and edit the thread linking to myself in other forums so that they don't need to go and google me, I can provide them with the facts right there.

I would also change your initial sentences from third person to first person. "I am Will Russell", "I founded the company" etc. since the title is "About Me". You wrote the first few sentences in third party so the title for those sentences should have been "About Will Russell".

Switching back and forth from first to third party makes it read as if two different people wrote it.

When I check out a website I always want to know something about the people as well as their business as it makes it more personal. After reviewing your website I would certainly give you a call if I needed work done on my vehicle. Good luck in your business!

Paul, I actually had an english professor review it because I made huge mistakes using the wrong perspectives. I believe now it is corrected and properly written but just because he is a professor does not mean he is totally correct. I think the "About Me" definitely is out of tense and should just say either About or About Will Russell. You're right on that for sure.
