hello guys, im pretty close to starting up my mobile detailing business. i want to do things right, and stand out from the usual generic mobile car wash guy in miami. ive already registered my business and after speaking to a score advisor he suggested to either go with a llc structure or a corporation s business. im still researching on that matter.. but the next move was going legit and insuring my business so if in worst case scenario im covered. today i finally got a quote from an insurance company and i would like for those of you that have gone thru this process before spread some knowledge to me and let me know if this quote is right for our kind of business.

I suggest that you speak to an insurance agent and have him explain this all to you as in how you're covered or not. If he can't explain it to your satisfaction you shouldn't spend your money with him. My agent will sit down with me and explain anything that I don't understand. He also took notice to some areas on my previous policy (same company, different agent) where I needed coverages and wasn't covered. He also pointed out things that weren't beneficial to me either and nixed those unnecessary costs for me.

I'd say keep shopping until you're sure what it is that you're paying for.

I'm a P&C agent in Texas, Dave's advise is sound. (FYI-that insurance company has a B rating from am best. I would urge you to do more research)

Here is some advice given in the past....

Clearly, you haven't provided enough information to give specific advice, however I can maybe give you some general advice.

Insurance carriers coverages vary from region to region. State laws regarding insurance also vary, therefore it commonly effects pricing and coverages from state to state.

You will find coverages more difficult to find if your business is less than a year old. But not impossible. Rates from carrier to carrier can vary dramatically.

The single best piece of advise I can give you is to find an independent agent near you. (This agent represents many different companies and is an advocate for your business. A State Farm agent represents a very limited scope of companies. This is not a knock on State Farm...their markets are limited)

Find an independent agent in your area. Call and ask if you could come in and talk about your business. Be prepared to give detailed information about your business plans.(ie: what is the scope of your work, type of vehicles you work on, where you work on them, equipment used, do you keep them overnight...you get the idea)

You should look at your meeting as an interview. Your agent should explain what coverages you need and why, provide multiply quotes and answer all of your questions. You should look to him as a business asset. Your hiring him and he's not doing you a favor to give you a quote.

Garage Keepers may or may not suit your needs depending on business activities. You may want to consider your liability exposure, equipment values, are you mobile (requiring commercial coverages), do you do work on commercial property.

Without exploring all of these variables and others it is impossible to know what coverages may or may not be needed.

Hope this helps.

I use liberty mutual and have 2,000,000 and its for cars boats rvs and my shop. I pay 515.00 per yr for all of it.You will not get better then this.

Mine came in at $535 for the year and its comparable to your coverages.

I do not see anything on there about garage keepers liability. You want to be covered to drive peoples car. You want to be able to store peoples car also. Sometimes I pickup customers cars and bring them to my house to detail. Sometimes customers will drop the car off the night before or pick up the car the next morning. Sometimes it is just pulling them in or out of the garage. Make sure you are properly insured.

:iagree:

If your agent isn't explaining all this to you I would look for another agent. Mine is $1,500 + a year. Your age, driving record, demographics and credit score have a lot to do with total cost

It use to be a million was plenty now everyone wants two on general, so thats sufficient. Garage keepers should about double your quote. I'm at $1400 for both. It's a write off and you can never have to much insurance IMHO. Make sure to keep your agents # handy when you need somthing faxed for new clients. Sounds like you are on the right path.

I suggest you also get quote from a different provider and compare them both. Have the agent explain every clause to you so you understand them. In that way you can also ask whatever you want or need on your business. You might want to read about some facts also about coverage characteristics of auto insurance. Goodluck!

thanks for the tips everyone, i really appreciate it

I was just reading through your site and the grammar is rough. I am no English professor to say the least but you may want to have someone proof read it and smooth out some of the sentences. Glad to see your getting the proper insurance.
