long time lurker, just registered with this great forum. I have a pc 7424 that is about 12 years old and still works just as good as the same day I bought it. I recently bought a boat that has some oxidation, not terrible but bad enough, I don't think the PC is the right tool for this job. I know a rotary with wool pads will get it but I have no experience with a rotary. I was thinking maybe a Flex 3401 will have enough power to do the job on my boat but is still safe enough to use on my truck. My question is, does the 3401 have that much more power / more effective than the PC 7424 ? I know the rotary will be cheaper (Dewalt 849x ~$180) but will be hesitant about using a rotary on my truck whereas the flex might be safer>...Thoughts?

With the 3401, you can exert more downward pressure if needed, and work on curved panels and it will keep spinning since it's forced rotation. Whereas the PC will stop spinning if you exert too much downward pressure.

You could get the rotary for the boat and keep using the PC for the truck. You should be able to use the PC on your truck by using the right pads, products and technique. Many on this forum use the PC successfully on their vehicles.

I have both I started with the PC then I moved to the flex. I use both but I will say I love the flex for it power, how it feels in your hands, it's a awesome machine. Worth every penny:buffing:

Welcome to AGO!

I initially purchased a PC but quickly upgraded to a Flex3401 - Night and Day difference because of forced rotation. Yes, 3401 is safer than a rotary for the individual who doesn't have any experience with a rotary...

I just got my flex in this week and man this thing is amazing! I have a griot 6 and never had an issue with it. But since my business is growing fast enough I figured it was time to upgrade.
The power is absolutely amazing!!! It cuts fast and never loses power.
I can't recommend spending over 300 on a machine if your PC is doing a good job.

the flex is a great machine, but a rotary and wool is a must on gelcoat in my opinion.

pick up a cheap harbour freight rotary...
