For those of you that detali out of your residence I have a question regarding quick washes.

The only type of work I have done for people I don't know is all day detail with paint correction etc. In cases like that people don't mind dropping off if I'm going to have it all day.

My question is for wash only do you have people wait? The only people I have done wash only is friends/family and they don't mind hanging out having a few beers etc. For those of you where the customer waits what do you have them do? Sit wait? (this would be awkward since it's a residence) I just want to offer service more than full details but am trying to figure out what to do with people that want to wait.

Any suggestions?

Go mobile for maintenance washing. ONR for the win!

Been debating that. Thing is I do this as a part time side business. I work approx 50 hours/week for Fedex so I'm not sure if i have the time to make going mobile worth it. Most work is done on the weekends.

Luckily, I have a mostly finished basement that connects to the garage. (My house is built into a hill.) I have a couch down there and have a Guest Wifi account setup for them. I keep a mini-fridge with bottled water as well. It started as a break area for me and buds doing car work, but I cleaned it up really nice. I have some wall art up too. Maybe look into something like that.

I`ve only had family and a few customers wait. I find that if its gonna take at least an hour, they will drop off and come back.

Sounds like a nice area. Is there a TV there?

I have had mobile and drop off. At this time, I would prefer them drop the car off, but some customers would prefer a mobile service especially if the car is not a daily driver. You could go that way and just use their water. I do that for a client that lives near me. I just pack up my buckets and what I need and use his water and electricity. He does not mind and pays me extra for coming out.

HUMP

I have customers who wait (outside) if they want to stay I grab a few lawn chairs to accomodate them even though it will be any hour or longer wait, do not have in house area. In winter a few want to sit in car while doing exterior, I really do not like working like that, makes me feel rushed. I put on my service menu to expect at least an hour and a half wait

I was leaning towards this and add like a 10 dollar fuel surcharge or something.

I was curious, if you do this as part time on the side, did you set up as a business? I'm working full time as well and I'm debating on insurance. Can I make enough $ to turn a profit? Working out of my garage with Garage Keepers would eliminate all my free time just to clear costs.
