That Nanoskin looks like something I would use. Will it remove all the products I have on my car, plus the paint contanimants also?
 
This is my view, for what the hell it's worth. I've had very good success. A lot of people try to work the Nanoskin, or the many products like it, into the routine of washing. Granted more than most do this as a secondary phase after they believe the contaminants are "cleared". I was one of those people, until I realized you have (need) to treat this as an individual step, not a convenience. Wash you vehicle, and I mean good. Use the clay substitute as and individual process with plenty of lube. ( I use Dodo born slippery ) did I mention plenty of lube. This along with correct pressure (light) will take you where you need to be before you continue your preferred steps. Good luck.

I own a black '14 Mustang GT 'vert and am a fanatic about keeping it clean and detailed at all times. It's garage kept and never driven in snow or rain, but after the baggie test I realized I have slight contamination. That will not stand.

It's never been clayed, but I just ordered the Nanoskin Mitt and the Glide Lube today after some research.

Are there any other household products, or perhaps other detailing products like Meguiars Detail Spray that can be used as lube? I got tons of that stuff laying around.

Yes, Meguiars Quik Detailer is fine as a lube.

You can even use the car wash shampoo from your wash as a lube also.
 
I actually prefer shampoos over detail sprays for clay lube. Never lets me down.

I think what they are trying to say is they use the solution in their buckets as it was used for washing.

I've done this too and found it to be about one of the best ways for preventing marring.

It was my understanding that contamination correction was a stand-alone step and not to be combined with washing.

Can anyone clarify?

I was missing a key word.... it should have read "same solution...". I clay after washing, but since I use the two bucket method my wash solution is always clean when I'm done. I use that solution as lube while claying.

As for doing the steps separately, I think Nanoskin has a couple of mits on the market that allow you to clay while you wash.
 
I used the Nanoskin sponge yesterday on my wife's car. I used a mix of 2 oz ONR to 32 oz of distilled water. It worked really well, once I figured out how much lube to use. The whole process took less time, and was easier, than I thought it would be. I think I need to trim my nails though.
