Guys,
Just purchased a new vehicle and I am going to be cleaning exterior and interior every 2 weeks using the 2 bucket method and other great ideas listed on the site. What I need help with is choosing the paint protection regime to follow.

This is the only portion I am going to have a professional do and I can't figure out which is best. I drive my vehicle 25,000 miles a year and it is kept in a parking garage.

I have found a mobile detailer who can do an exterior detail for $100 with BFWD. My initial thought is to have this done twice a year.

I also have found a detailer who applies Opti-coat pro. Initial cost for this is $550. Have read great things about OC and know it is supposedly a permanent thing but that is a large up front cost.

My questions are:

1. Should I just do BFWD twice a year and forget OC?

2. Should I do OC Pro for first application and have BWFD done every 6 month after OC Pro

3. Should I have BFWD detailer apply Opti-Coat 2.0 and then have him do BFWD every 6 months? Does this product produce the same results as Opti-coat pro?

4. I have nice aluminum wheel with painted inserts that I want to take care of, have heard OC is great for wheels, or should I just have BFWD applied to wheel?

Thanks in advance for the help. Just want to make sure I get off to the right start with this vehicle and before spending this kind of money would like to hear the expert's opinions. I have done plenty of research on this so sorry if this question has been asked in this format but I couldn't find it.

You should do this all yourself, save some coin, and from start to finish do the work. It will be ten times more rewarding, and it can be easy if planned right.

It is a white SUV also in case that affects recommendations.

I vote do it yourself. Once I was quoted over $500 for Opti-coat I decided since I change cars so often I should just buy everything to do it myself. I ended up with Rupes Bigfoot, a mountain of pads and microfibers, enough polish to do more than 20 cars, and a bad addiction to buying detail products. lol

I may decide to do it myself later but am wanting opinions on the questions above. Thanks.

okay

You'd need to do it more than twice a year, just because it says it lasts 6 months, environment, etc...plays a role and you'd need to maintain it.

2. Should I do OC Pro for first application and have BWFD done every 6 month after OC Pro

Toppig opticoat with BFWD doesn't work, it will last 3 weeks. Sealants and waxes don't bond well to oc

3. Should I have BFWD detailer apply Opti-Coat 2.0 and then have him do BFWD every 6 months? Does this product produce the same results as Opti-coat pro?
No, no it doesnt'

4. I have nice aluminum wheel with painted inserts that I want to take care of, have heard OC is great for wheels, or should I just have BFWD applied to wheel?
You can do either, but OC is long term

You can also just do this all yourself for cheaper, just takes time.

I am leaning towards BFWD. I understand it is preference but for my situation does that sound like a good choice or should I look seriously at OC Pro or OC 2.0? Thanks cleanmycorolla.

You can't go wrong with Opti-Coat Pro. I think you should definitely go with a coating for a car that is driven that hard.

Being a brand-new car (without defects hopefully), see if you can talk the guy down a little for the pro application. I think there may be some wiggle room there...but maybe not.

If not, see if the opti-coat authorized guy will apply 2.0 for you. He will almost definitely be the most qualified and will do a better job. This is not a fool proof product and can be messed up.

You may be able to get down in the 200-300 range for 2.0, and it's still a good product. It's worth the money to have it done professionally, if you don't have a lot of detailing experience.

The vehicle is a GMC Yukon so due to the size I am assuming that is reason for the price. I have a tough time deciding between OC or BFWD. I like the idea of renewing the sealant a few times a year, but I don't really enjoy applying them so that is why OC is appealing. I am really torn. Wish there was a INDEPENDENT study showing which is better.

ajeagle6921, from everything you have stated, at least to me, it seems like the OC2.0 would be the best for you. My reasons being: you do not particularly enjoy applying products multiple times, OC2.0 would not cost the same as Pro but still protect very well, and as Status stated, I would go with the detailer whom is a OC Pro installer. He, "should" be well qualified for the installation of either. Not to say the other mobile detailer is not, he may just not be an "authorized installer" because he was too close to another authorized installer as that happens as well. I haven't tried because I know of another pro detailer close to me which would nullify my chances. (At least with OC-Pro)

With that being said, I really enjoy using BFWD myself as I've used it on many vehicles (mine, family, friends as well as customers). I enjoy applying it as it's very easy, smells and looks great but it does not last 6 months in my environment nor as long as OC2.0, that's why I also use PBL and 22PLE for longer protection. (soon CQ UK)

Even with you having a new vehicle, with applying any coating, any professional detailer should perform at least a light polish after proper wash, decon, and inspection. The initial cost for OC Pro of $550 sounds about right for that size "new" vehicle.

Also, are you wanting your glass and wheels protected and with what? On a new vehicle, I would personally have at least the OC2.0 put on the wheels and similar protection for the glass.

If I am going to do the OC I figured the cost savings would not be significant enough to switch to OC 2.0 unless I have other detailer do it.

So I guess my last questions is OC Pro or BFWD?

For wheel sealant I am leaning towards using Hydro2, figured that would not harm my TUF Shine coated tires.
