Tundra vs. Ram 1500 vs. Silverado

Well I was looking towards my budget, and I am able to get a 1500 through a friend for about 30,000, which I believe is a steal! Chevrolet is having truck month offers, which allows me to purchase it around the low 30's. Tundra has always been my dream truck. I've been thinking about it over and over again, and the only thing that gets to me is the MPG. Ford is kind of on the pricey side for me. With that new EcoBoost, I'm looking at 40,000 around?

Something a friend told me long ago. You should be happy making that payment. Buy what you want or you'll regret writing that check every month.

Two major things that would deter me from a Tundra is the lack of fuel efficiency and its soft paint. Not a fan of the plastic/vinyl interior either. Dodge has come along way but, I have always favored GM trucks.

I currently have a Ram 1500 quad Big Horn, I replaced my 2005 Silverado Z71. Got a pretty good deal, heated seats, wheel, mirrors, NAV/Bluetooth, remote start and full center console as well as the tow package. Got it for 32k after discounts. I couldn't find a Ford or Chevy in the same price range, not to mention I didn't like the interiors of them. I like the center stack of the Ram compared to Chevy/Ford. My mileage with the 6 speed is 16 or so mixed driving environment on winter blend. I've put 23k on it since last March and only changed the oil (and a tire i ripped a hole in!) Rides like a car but it is BIG, I mean like wow big. I am making my gf's son drive it while we are teaching him to drive. Our thoughts are if you can drive this, you can drive anything! If I could do it all over, get a crew cab, you lose some bed space but pick up 4" of rear seat leg room, also get the backup camera.

When it comes to trucks the Ram is the way to go, anyone that has ever driven one will fall in love with it. Silverado would be my next choice.

Long term reliability, the toyotas have always been ridiculous. Now I dont know about the tundra but the Tacomas last FOREVER! I would assume the Tundras last just as long.

Silverado all the way, the motor is proven and tested. It also has the cylinder deactivation. The tranny is also proven. The interior on the new ones is awesome. The tundras are nice but horrible mpg would kill it for me. Rams are my last pick, just not a fan and dodge usto have shitty build quality so idk if I trust their new found quality and style.

My 09 Ram has been treating me real well for the last 3 years. Low maintance costs for me up to this point (92K). The power is awesome and so is the MPGs if you drive it nice. My brother-in-law had a Tundra and got horrible mileage with his. The Silverado is not high on my list because I don't personally care for the design.

Tundra and 4Runner here.....both drag through the mud sand snow slop tow everything I need to ride like a Cadillac 100% bulletproof.

Doesn't GM make Chevy and Cadillac? I guess this answers the question doesn't it.

Silverado/GMC hands down.. I've had my truck for 11 years now and it's still going strong with 170,000 on it.. I hope to get 20-25 years out of it. We will see.. :xyxthumbs:

i have a 2014 Silverado and it is a completely new truck. i traded in my 2013 Silverado after i took the 2014 out for a test drive while my other one was getting an oil change. they have completely redesigned the truck. i was close to by a F-150, test drove the Ram 1500, but hands down the new 2014 Silverado was the best choice. the ram can only say it has the best gas mileage by 1 MPG and that is on the V6 with the same options across the board.

I'm not sure why everyone knocks the Tundra's fuel economy. Any 4WD truck with nearly 400 horse with a 4:30 gear isn't going to see 20 mpg.

But I've seen good numbers (real world numbers) with my 2008 5.7L TRD 4x4 D-Cab. See the pics.

I'm not trying to start a debate, just showing some figures. I've had 2 Tundra's and have been more than satisfied with the reliability, performance, and most of all; the resale value! :xyxthumbs:

My vote goes to the ram. Especially since they now have the 8 speed bullet proof trans. I have an 09 and I love it. I've don't about every bolt on mod to it and I smoke just about anything that pulls up next to me. Plus that hemi with long tube headers sounds Sooo nice. Here's a pic of mine for motivation lol

Wow thanks for the pics! I heard that the Dodge Ram has a better drivetrain and suspension, but is it on par with the reliability of a Tundra? And also, I believe the Tundra is also a little roomier in the back seat am I correct? I'm not trying to bag on anyone's truck or anything, just curious. Please do not take it the wrong way.

I'm guessing the tune or new air intake wont help with the gas mileage would it? Could there be anything out there that will possibly help with the MPG for the Tundra?

The exhaust, tune and cold air helped the fuel economy a lot. On the highway I 9.9-10L/100KM (20-22 MPG) @ 65mph. The tune was the biggest contributor, along with premium fuel. Truck runs very well. If you do get one, PM me and I will show you how to build your own TRD CAI for less than $100 over buying one for $400 (waste of $$ there LOL)

If I were to buy a pickup, I would go for a Tundra. Probably one like Andrew Wilson has.

I had a DD Camry and it's reliability was unmatched.

The new front end is just awesome!

Just curious but, has anybody had any BAD experiences with any of these trucks? Besides the bad gas mileage?

I wouldn't give up on the F150. You can get a deal as good or better than the rest if you try. The EcoBoost is awesome but the 5.0 is awesome too. The EcoBoost is a absolute towing beast! Nothing compares. Test drive one and see what you think.

Everyone has their preference so I could tell you the F150 is the best like everyone else says about their trucks but it will just come down to what you like in the end.

I'm a ford guy all the way . my dad has 13 tundra . and while he was looking at all the trucks he decided on tundra . for one reason is it's towing capabilities , he hauls a big camper . I have no idea of the trucks which has the best towing though . he just got rear ended , very minor , slow speed . but it was still $6500 in damage

Trucks have come a long way in the last 20 years. I believe the reliability of all of them are great. I generally comes down to brand loyalty or preference. I have a 2006 GMC Sierra with 192,000 miles. I have only has to have a sensor and front hub replaced. It still has the original front and rear brake shoes/pads. I had a 2000 Silverado before the GMC. I put 220,000 miles on it and it only has to have an a/c valve replaced.
