New Steamer

Just picked up a steamer last night and have a couple questions. First of all, what type of water is best for it? Tap, Distilled or just a good filtered water? I will be draining after use as well...

Second, i have read a bit about adding a bit of cleaner to the tank as well. I was thinking of a anti-microbial cleaner / disinfectant. The steam itself isn't enough to really clean HVAC systems, but a vaporized solution would reach the depths of most ventilation systems and into the heater core too killing any nastiness growing there. Any thoughts?

I always use distilled water in my Wagner 905 steamer. Using tap water may introduce minerals and other "stuff" at high temperatures that could leave stains or odors you can't remove. Tap water can also cause calcium deposits to build up in the boiler that may diminish the life of the boiler. Besides, distilled water only costs 80¢/gallon so it won't break the bank.
 
I also use distilled.
I don't think your suppose to use anything but water in the boiler?

Does that model works for car interior too?

I've been using it for the past 2 years with very good results. Some of the issues I have with the Wagner 905/McCulloch MC-1275 (same machine, different name) are the steam contains a lot of moisture (almost "wet steam"), and the pressure and temperature isn't as high as other steamers. I used the 905 on the steering wheel of a Pontiac Montana which had steering wheel mounted radio controls. The radio started randomly changing channels and volume. Once the steering wheel dried, the problem went away. DOH!

I wish the 905 came with a 3" triangular brush and a 3" circular brush, attachments found with other steamers. My plan is to use the 905 until I can afford a VX5000-class steam cleaner.
 
Use straight distilled water. No chemicals in the tank or you will ruin the steamer.
 
I used tap water in my steamer, you could use DeIonized water as well as distilled.

The only thing other than water you should ever add to the tank is the special decalcifying product used to clean it.

Again I only use distilled water and nothing else.

You should not use anything else with the water.

And chances are very good you will also void the warranty as the company will be able to tell if you return the steamer when it stops working that something other than distilled water was used.


Only use distilled water. We go over this when we go over steamers in our detailing boot camp class.
