Brake rotor rust

I enjoy washing the car in the garage. I may not drive the car for weeks after a wash so the rotors get rusty. I just drove the car down the street and back, now the wheels and the side of the car are all dirty again from the rust. Now I have to wash it again. And the cycle continues.

Any great ideas on how to keep the rotors from rusting after a wash?
 
My rotors will show some rust following a wash. If I simply put it in gear and put a bit of pressure on the brake pedal and gas as well, I can roll forward about 10-15' slowly to remove the surface rust that forms. No need to drive fast and kick up rotor/brake dust.
 
There's also Hyde's Serum, but that seems like a solution looking for a problem when you can just roll and gently brake. But, if you've got a garage queen, this may work for you.

I was actually looking at buying some of that, what do you mean by having problems using it. Thanks in advance

No problems using it, but "a solution looking for a problem" is a sardonic way of saying that there really isn't a problem that needs to be fixed by having a product such as this. Just my opinion when a few rolls of the wheels will get rid of the rust.

The issue is not the rust on the rotors after a wash

The issue is that when you hit the brakes for the first time, the rust leaves the rotors and ends up on your freshly cleaned rims and you have to wipe them down again.

Hyde's Serum is designed to eliminate the need for this final wipedown

Which is why I washed the wheels after :D

What are your plans for cleaning up those wheels?

Interested to hear what combination of cleaners and abrasives end up working for you.

After each wheel, I use either the air compressor or the air force blaster, and that seems to tremendously cut down on the rust.

Yes I understand your problem, I just hate that rust on the rotors. I think the solution is to drive the car with light application of brakes, it doesn't need much to get the rotors clean. I never thought that when it rains the rotors must get rust just like a wash.

Nothing big, those are how my wheels look after some rain lol...

It gets my thorough once a year cleaning using:

Simple Green (Diluted 1:10) or Sonax
Agitated with both a Boar's Hair Brush and EZ Wheel Brush or
Wheel Woolies

Does a wonderful job getting them clean

Then the Collinite 476 as a wheel wax. Updates pending on how well this works out for me.

Oh, 476 was applied for the first time just last week.
We've had too much rain here for me to go about doing my usual business.

But I would clay them...once I get my track wheels on and have these show wheels off the car.
Then I'd go 105 or D151 by hand :D and potentially give them a full Duragloss treatment
 
The car doesn't get washed very often as it doesn't get dirty. Also it is never driven in the rain. Normally when I do wash it I just go down the driveway and apply the brakes a couple of times. That works very well. However it was raining out this time so I could not take the car outside.

Taking the car around the block resulted in the picture below. Rust everywhere, even on the side of the car. The car is dirtier now than before I washed it.

I may try the Hydes, problem is getting to the back side of the rotor. Another thing I may try if it is raining out is jack up the car and turn the wheel a few times. I dont have the room to roll it in the garage.
