Bobs Mustang Restoration Update

Wondering, What brand primer and paints are you using ? Did you use epoxy primer on the bare metal ? Thanks.

Great work and share, made me walk through the thread expecting updates, and I'm glad I could find many! Can't wait for more.

Thanks for taking your time sharing this wonderful restoration with us.

Kind Regards.

Anyhow, you may already know this but worth mentioning just in case; have you taken care of the Cowl vents?

On many of these older mustangs water leaks through the Cowl vents. It's best to weld new pieces before the car is painted but in case it's too late for that then you can buy a repair kit and glue them before you put your under dash goodys in place.
Still good info to toss out there. It may help someone else. As you said, you may already know this ....

its all new!!dude... everything except the floor which was done recently we replaced ..the cowl and everything under it got coated with rust fighter and all the seams got seam sealer then painted and cleared and the color is Ford code " T " candy apple red ..there is a pic above with the can and all the info is on it ...just in case you didn't catch it. :xyxthumbs: besides i don't think this car will see much water as its resting place will be in Florida and in a well maintained garage

Cooooool,:xyxthumbs:

im sorry to hear that you are ill , my prayers are with you ..
as for the car we didn't blast that much really just the piece where the top folds down into ( a section right behind where the rear vinyl top touches the panel ) ..its right underneath. i don't have a picture of so its hard to explain ..as far as the rest goes its all new sheet metal.. the old stuff got ripped out and we welded in all new pieces including the engine bay and what you see in the picture above ALL NEW BABY!! Then we fitted the doors and fenders etc.. and welded the quarters in .. Then Cris shaved and formed all the gaps to look even and straight ..After that everything got blocked and filed straight because even that the panels are new there not perfect , the sheet metal is stamped from an original dye from Ford but its an aftermarket company .. After that we applied a poly coating to all the sheet metal for anti corrosion and block the whole car..Once all that is finished we then applied a 2 part ultra high build sprayable filler ( its like bondo but its sprayed out of a gun 8 mils. per coat we applied 3 coats) ...then we block that down with 180 grit sandpaper and apply 4 to 5 coats of high build primer and block that down ..
Now we are at present time and about to apply another 3 coats of high build primer and prep it for paint..And yes its going red what exactly i have not a clue but im sure it'll be a Ford red that's correct for the car and year ..Standox is the paint line i spray ...
I think that covers it ...more details as we move forward..

thanks fellas .... i will post stuff and pics as much as i can ..itll be a short while as i have to work on the many other things that are going on at the shop

Sorry about the quality of the pictures my lens was filthy on my phone ..my bad ..: )

Looking good!! But man that engine looks like a squirrel in a sea.

My god Marius does this bring back memories!

Back in 1972 I had a 1965 Mustang hardtop with Fords 6 cylinder, 3 speed transmission, and 4 bolt hubs. I had some great times driving mine and I hope Bob enjoys this treasure of yesteryear...

Beautiful work Marius! :props:

Thanks Bobby ...makes me smile when I can bring back happy memories ...thats what its all about dude .. : )

lol ..i know ...its only a 6 cyl... pretty stock but i think thats what bob is going for

Ya I figured he wanted all original which I completely understand. I'm sure he will love it to death.

The car has family history.Bob had contemplated switching the engine early on but decided to keep the six.I think that was a smart move.

Agreed! Plus he said he wanted it to be just like it left the showroom floor henceforth leaving the 6

So we've been busy for a couple of weeks and made some more progress with Jenny so i took some more pics and here they are ...at this point we are about half way done with her , she still needs to have the interior done and the convertible top needs to be installed before it goes to the upholstery shop , the fuel tank has been also installed and the exhaust system has been bolted in ... the transmission has to be filled with oil and the drive shaft hooked up so its only rolling right now but we are close to firing it up and testing things to make sure everything is in proper order :xyxthumbs: .. in a couple of weeks ill be doing the cut and buff on Jenny so stay tuned for that as im sure you guys will enjoy that....
Im the MAN
