Epic Detail Weekend

That for sure is a nice garage...I like the sisal on the lolly column and the VCT floor...although doesn't the runoff from a wet car (when it's raining) lift those tiles, since I see you don't have a good layer of floor finish (care of VCT floors is a bit like caring for the paint on your car...different cleaning, polishing, and sealing steps, and various maintenance routines)?

OH! And for those marveling at my black trim and wondering my secret, or anyone wanting a cheap, lasting solution for black trim bits...here it is:

It is a paint additive you put in wood sealant for decks. You can find it at your local Home Depot or Lowes, and a quart is only about $11.00. I JUST applied a fresh coat (just because) today. Last time I applied it was back in November. I just use a microfiber to wipe it on.

You know, when I saw your early pics in the thread I noticed how good the trim looked and figured you had already found Solution Finish, C4, DLux, etc. That is a great find!! The real question is...how on earth did you get the idea to use a product that is so unrelated on your trim?

Oh those.... Came that way when we bought the house.

As for the floor... It wasn't in great shape (finish-wise) when we bought the house. It hasn't lifted at all except at the very end where the garage doors come down there are a few broken pieces.

I can't take credit for the Penetrol idea. Apparently someone in the Jeep community figured it out and the information found it's way to someone I know with a MINI.

But it works fantastic.... It leaves a great sheen but it's completely dry, no greasy feel. It does not bleed in the rain. I do take care not to get it on the paint when I apply it. If I do, I just wipe it off right away. I have been using it for about a year now and have not found any negative reactions from it.

Maybe they use a different tile adhesive when it's a garage, but at least in the old days the adhesive wasn't waterproof and if you get enough water between the cracks it will eventually lift the tile. The prevention is floor finish ("wax") built up over multiple applications so the spaces between the tiles are sealed.

Regardless of how you found out about Penetrol, it's a great find and thanks for sharing!

So far so good Monica!

PHASE 3 Completed.

Todays' tools:

First thing was to apply the 1st coat of DGPS. I have to admit, of all the waxes and sealants I have used, this one is by far my favorite! I love everything from how easily it goes on and comes off, to the rich, glossy shine it leaves behind:

Next step was to finish the interior. My cabin area is never dirty, but I like to wipe the dash, seats, etc down occasionally. I use Prima Nero for the plastic bits and vinyl seats. Also brushed out the nooks and crannies as well as got the dirt out of the little crevices on the steering wheel controls:

Final step today was the wheels...
You might be wondering why NOW I'm dealing with the wheels?
Simple, they were in the basement until I dragged them up this morning.. finally time to get the summer sneakers on. I re-washed them with Autofinesse, and applied the Mint Rims Wheel Wax. This is the 2nd time I've used this wheel wax. It went a whole lot better this time. I worked on one wheel at a time and used it sparingly... it goes a long way. My wheels have a matte finish, but I like the little sheen the wax left :dblthumb2:

So far still very happy with my results :dblthumb2:

I'll update more tomorrow.

Somehow I scheduled ANOTHER tattoo appt for tomorrow. I need to schedule that stuff better. This just means I need to get my detailing tasks for tomorrow finished before my appt

The paint does look a lot glossier now.

Phase 4:

2nd coat of DGPS.
Not muh to say here.

I decided to wash up the truck while I was at things.
Broke out the pressure washer.

Anyone thinks that an electric 1,700 PSI pressure washer won't do the job, well it will. I made the sad mistake of getting my hand in the stream... OUCH!

I was at the tattoo shop for the rest of the day... it's car related, so I'll post a pic later :D

I have one phase left... Top wax coat tomorrow.

Then pictures of course :D
