This is my neighbors 2005 Acura, it's only 9 years old and has 45,000 kilometers on it. The owner doesn't believe in washing or waxing, the car has always sat in the sun and the only "wash" it ever gets is when it rains. When I say it's never been washed or waxed, I really mean NEVER.

He's always been critical of me washing, waxing and polishing my car. "Why are you wasting your time washing your car? Let the rain do it" "You scratch your car when you wash it!" "You'll burn your clearcoat with that thing!" thankfully this month has been very quiet.

Take a look... It's gotten much worse since these pictures were taken two weeks ago.

I don't deal with that sort of nonsense from people. Let him enjoy his peeling paint.

I'll say that it doesn't get "too" much worse. My neighbor has a 78 Chevy silverado that he's never washed since the first time he did in 1978. He said it took him an hour, then he drove it down a dirt road and have up. Never washed again.

It is literally black rust. Don't know how else to explain it

People amaze me. The will focus on maintaining some things and neglect others. He may have laughed at your investment, but wont be laughing at the body shops paint quote or he askes book value on selling it, and only gets low ball offers.

Looks like typical Honda paint. I'm sure never washing/waxing it helped either.

Oh, indeed! $5500 complete paint job and only $2500 trade in for another Acura -- $2500 on a car that has 45, 000km/28, 000miles. When I told him his paint failed due to owner neglect he laughed and said there was a problem with how the OEM paint was applied. I remember when he rolled up with it 9 years ago that was the first and last time it was washed, by the dealer.

Yikes...how can anyone even try to smack talk you when their paint looks like that? SMH. I've got an 11 year old Honda that looks better than that...even with the crowfooted clear coat on the hood!

Its a shame how some people don't care about there vehicles and to think about it its more dangerous and harmful not to take care of a paintwork(vehicle) than using a polisher in a sense

Every time my dad saw me add a coat of carnauba wax after a wash, he would tell me the same thing like "your going to mess up the clear coat!" But after he saw that my routine made his car shine like crazy, he stopped the criticism :)

So what did he say when he saw that lol

He came over about 3 weeks ago and asked if my "fancy tool" could fix his paint problem. I told him I didn't see anything that needed correction, just a new paint job. :)

Haha good response and that is why we take care of our cars so it doesn't look like that!

I don't understand why folks won't
take better care of their vehicles.

For gosh sakes...
During any given year, I'll usually wash my vehicles when I no longer can see out the windows...:D...Hey: I figure since I pay good money to have them insured...I can at least do that much.

Now I'm not saying any vehicle should ever be a roving pigsty. But I'm concerned that this obsessive-"nurturing"
of vehicles could quite possibly be considered, by some people, very Whiskey Tango!!

Ohhhh the humanity! Whyyyy!!! lol.

Thats terrible. If some one is to lazy to wash a car they are probably to lazy to get the oil change too... You will have the last laugh when he goes to sell it and you find out he only got $1,000 for the car...

Even if you don't wash or wax, I don't think that should happen to 9 yr old clear coat.

It pains me to hear people say, "why do you wash your car?? That's what the rain is for!" As if we, the people who take care of our investments, are the crazy ones. A friend of mine has the same thing happening with his Alero and won't listen to me that washing and waxing is a good thing. Oh well...his problem I guess.
