Don't worry about other people.
People will say you did a great job and you wont hear from them again. People will say they will be back and you wont here from them again. I've followed up with people and gotten no response, then six months later they ask for work again.
Anyway, I moved down to MD to take a job at a shop and one of the main reasons is because I was told I would be detailing here. About a month after I started my boss cornered me and asked me how much I charge.
I responded with my rate of about $140 for the average. I also said I wanted to talk to the customer so I could see what they wanted exactly.
His response? "No ones ever paid that much for a detail, you have no idea how to run a business." He laughed in my face and walked away.
Fast forward to about 3 weeks ago, I approached him with a sound business plan. He looked at it, said he would consider it and then did not get back to me. He finally had a meeting with me and told me that I was suppose to do this in March. I was shocked because when he approached me in March he literally laughed in my face.
He asked me to clean a car he bought to flip. He asked me to (I still have the note) wash the exterior, clean the wheels, wipe the glass and vacuum the interior. This car sat in a barn and needed a lot of work...not an hour that he asked me to spend on it. There was also some duct tape that had dried and etched itself into the paint, which I removed and did a little hand polish. I told him it needed to be machine polished his response? "go get me goof of and Ill have it off in 5 minutes." I said okay and he responded with "well I dont have time to show you how to do your job. If you cant even do this job how can you expect to do high end? I don't know what I am going to do with you, I am disappointed."
He bitched at me for 20 minutes about how I didn't do what he asked, all of which I did.
So last Thursday was my last day and I am going to follow my dreams of doing this myself.
Point is, a lot worse could happen. I moved 2 hours away, I have no friends here, luckily I met a girl who is supportive or else I would be back home with my mom. If this stuff gets you down, you are going to be in trouble, just fight on!
