Have a 2014 CTS in black which I took delivery a few months ago, traded in my 2011 CTS. I happened to notice scratches, water marks, swirls/holograms all over the car. My guess the dealer installed the option of swirls/holograms which I didn't notice until now. What products do you recommend I use to correct this and other issues? My neighbor has a Rupes DA that I can borrow. I'd like to start fresh from square one. I have used a porter cable DA in the past.

Thanks for the help..

Wolfgang meguiars lots to choose from see what your neighbor is using with the rupes and try it ?. Post some pics maybe before and after the correction..

GM paint is usually on the harder side.

Though a Test Spot is always recommended IMO

I have found that M105 and 205 are a great combo for black GM paint but let the paint tell you what is going to work.

:iagree:

Menzerna and Rupes for the knock out !

I agree - but I'd get the Wolfgang flavor UC, TSR, & FG. I'd skip the M-one-oh-whatever unless you are a pro. However, if your neighbor has a Rupes, the Rupes polishes and pad combos are quite good. Maybe he has this stuff and you can float him a few $$$$ ?

You still will likely need a PC style machine for smaller areas...Unless you neighbor is a true baller and also has the Rupes Mini.

My neighbors just have a bunch of old lawn mowers and Tupperware bins filled old baby clothes in their garage. Lucky you.

Wow , these 2014 CTSs are pretty nice , my mother just bought one a month or so ago !

I just did a XLR srx and a newer cts and the paint on all 3 were extremely hard. Had to get very aggressive with them.

Thanks for the help. Checked with my neighbor he said the Rupes was given to him as a gift said he does not like it he likes more the Flex machine. I asked him if I can keep it he said sure thing. Can you say "Holy @#$%" Major score!! The porter cable I used in the past was actually one from Meguiars G100 which I still have ( hidden somewhere). Where do I go from here a lot to choose from. I'm leaning towards Menzerna.

I prefer Meg's MF pads with Meg's MF compound on hard GM paint. Then I follow up with Menz SF4000. Here is a Cadillac Hearse I corrected and coated a few weeks ago. The MF pads and compound blew right through the swirls.

This is what I have.

That doesn't look to bad at all! Menzerna SI2500 followed by SF4000 should easily take care of it. What does the rest of the paint look like? Pretty much the same as in the photo?

Its pretty much the same as in the photo although on the quarter panels and doors I can see the buffer trails left by the dealer or whatever they used to wash the car.

Doesn't sound all that bad. In terms of paint clarity, what level of "perfection" are you looking for? Do you just want to level out the paint, add some gloss, and protect or are you willing to put in an entire weekend to maximize paint clarity?

I hope you don't mind but I've reposted your pic in a larger size to save the eyesight of others. :-)

What product(s) do you already have on hand?

I'm guessing if you already have/had a Megs DA, you should also have some products.

Just02896, no problem I just did not know how to make the picture bigger in the attachment. I'm will to put in an entire weekend to maximize paint clarity, whatever it takes. What does think of the Meguiars Ultimate system or DA microfiber correction? Is the Menzerna better?

davey g-force, have no products starting from square one except have gold class car wash soap.

I use Meg's MF pads and MF correction compound quite often on hard paints with great results. There's a little dusting but it can be minimized by blowing out your pad often with compressed air. Then just follow up with Menzerna SF4000 or Sonax 3/6 on yellow or white Rupes pads. Or you could just use the Rupes line of polishes, MF pads, and foam pads. They also work exceptionally well.

+1

We have a 2013 CTS AWD Silver Coast Metallic.
