Switched from Zaino to Blackfire.

Good question rsurfer and i heard the comparisons however i don't want to threadjack flycaster.

Let me ask fly...when did you apply your last Zaino before Blackfire? If you were at the end of the Z's life i will bet the clay removed even more before the Blackfire. Even if not ALL of the Z was removed i have to think Blackfire might like it to bond with anyway. And i bet the BF found enough raw paint to bond to as well.

The Zaino (AIO, Z5, ZCS, Grand Finale) were applied about 4-5 months ago.

As for bonding, do these products actually "cut" through the clearcoat to reach the paint? I ask this as I would naively think that they only go as deep as the clearcoat???

Clear Coat is paint (or resin)...
Paint without pigments, as it were.

That's what these products "bond to".

Flycaster, that Beemer looks great, looks like the car was paint with wine, WOW! I made the transistion from Zaino to BF products when I came here. BFCS is a great product, price and ease of use are the best! The fact that it flashes in 45 minutes let you apply something over the top of it, if you want. Since then my "itch" has extended to other products here but BFCS is in my top 5 for sure!

No, as FunX said, sealants don't "penetrate" anything but they do like very clean paint exposed. I think that's what the guys were referring to earlier by suggesting you may not have removed all of the prior Zaino before applying Blackfire.

And my point was to suggest not to worry about it if so. Especially now that it was 4-5 months old. Is this a daily driven vehicle for you? I realize it is garaged but if it's out in our climate daily, after 4-5 months any LSP has probably given up the ghost or is near. Plus you mentioned it was left out for a week and had collected some dirt prior to your recent wash.

In summary, i was simply trying to allay any concerns you may have for not fully removing any previous Zaino before switching to Blackfire. I bet you didn't have much left and i would also bet that Blackfire may not mind a trace amount of Zaino left in spots. Just watch the beading/sheeting qualities of the Blackfire to see how it does. I will also say that, in my experience, nothing i have tried lasted as long as Zaino but like you, it sort of became a pain. Blackfire products are soooooo much easier and i love the look on my black paint as well.

(I like Klasse's comment..."looks like it was painted with wine!". Yes, a delicious '62 merlot...beautiful)

Thanks for the info. I never realized that clearcoat was paint.

Thanks for the compliment. "...The fact that it flashes in 45 minutes let you apply something over the top of it..."--I have some leftover Zaino ZCS and Grand Finale, could these be added after washing without and negative effects?

The car is my drive, but not driven daily...since new, 2005, it only has 36K miles.
I'm just an aging semi-detail enthusiast who likes to keep my car looking good and protected from the SoFL elements. Zaino has done a good job, but BF appears to do just as well (and maybe even a little better on the overall look-does look to have a glossier, deeper, darker wine color than before) while being easier to apply.

Could you go a little further into "...watch the beading/sheeting qualities of the Blackfire to see how it does...?" Are you saying that these qualities may not be the same (not as good/better) as Zaino?

I like the look of Blackfire over Zaino too and that made it a keeper for me.

I would get pretty tight beading with Zaino. Very noticeable after it was applied and would provide hints for me as to when it needed to be reapplied. Blackfire behaves differently for me and while it is still hydrophobic, it doesn't have the same beading qualities that Zaino had. BF "sheets" more when i rinse after a wash...not as much "beads".

I like sheeting better than beading. After washing, if I can't get tot he beads before they dry, I usually have to rub a little harder with the MF to get out the dried bead marks. I think sheeting leaves a "cleaner" car.

Yes, i do too and i use the flood or "drip" method as a final rinse before towel drying. A lot less water to dry off with a towel and thus less friction passes on the paint.

I've been having problems getting a clean, streak-free finish with Z-AIO and Z-CS on my black car. I realize I'm probably just putting it on too thickly, but I still have several failed attempts under my belt. Is Blackfire easier to apply in this regard?

BF MS and BFWD are idiot proof. BF Crystal Seal may require a wipe or two in spots to level it. But the stuff is quite easy to use and quite good. Really, all you need is a tin of BF MS.

Big statement! I'm assuming that includes Z-6? Thats the only product I still use from Zaino, other than their clay. So you feel it offers more than Z-6?

Not trying to start a debate, I'm honestly curious. If you are willing to make that big a statement, I might have to check it out!

Would love to hear your thoughts on the two. Also looking forward to your comparison of Souveran and Synergy! ;)

I used Z-6 years ago back in the 2000's, I personally feel BF WDPS and CG V-7 are better than Z-6. I had a couple buddies try it too and they converted and I was the guy who got them hooked on Z-6 back in the day.

Am I missing something..are you comparing the durability of Z6 (QD) to BF WDPS which is a paint sealant? Z2/Z5 would be a better comparison to BF.

Yes, BF is easier to apply than Zaino...one of the reasons I gave BF a try. Zaino has to be put on very, very thinly. Usually going over the streaks with Z6 is helpful.

I agree with fly...Blackfire is infinitely easier than Zaino and i like the finished look better.

It will not last. At least not as long as CQUK. I have used BFWD for years. I Know it well. Before that, I also used Z2 . Products like Crystal Seal will extend the life but if you really get an itch to try something amazing, research Car pro . It IS more hydrophobic than BFWD on it's first wash . The paint looks cleaner and Shines.
