Detailing a '05 E350 with several of these spots on the hood. Obvious paint damage, but from what? I've never run across these before. There were 8 or 10 spots on just the hood of the van. I'm guessing really potent bird bomb left to work it's magic?
:dunno:

Wow!! That must have been a real big bird!! Vulture poop? Eagle Poop? My guess it is poop and I think you are right the bird left a potent bomb to do his magic! Please tell and show how you get rid of those spots. That will be cool!

Also let the owner of that car to not park under the Big Bird's place...LOL

plus one on Setec Astronomy post though if etching does occur before you remove it just clean, clay, and spot compound and or polish the section so that the stain is removed and not permanently baked into the paint

When I see that it looks like the paint is toast in that area. Further compounding or polishing will just speed up the deterioration. What caused it ... I have no idea. More than likely a bird bomb that sat there baking in the sun until multiple rain storms washed it off. I worked on a 1995 Chevy truck and it had lots of these. It wasn't washed or waxed the first 15 years of it's life. I shined up the truck and sealed it then let the owner know they should keep it sealed well or save for a repaint. He sold the truck while it was all detailed.
