Hey guys and gals,

Have any of you purchased the export version of the FLEX 3401 VRG polisher for use outside of the US? I'm using the export version here in Thailand and I had brought my LC backing plate kit with me from the US when I was previously using it with my FLEX there. For some odd reason, the nut that comes with the kit is too big to fit on the export version of the FLEX. It fits perfectly fine with my US version of the 3401 but not the export version. I'm not sure what the best thing to do is now because I can't use any of my 5 inch LC Hybrid pads since I can't mount the LC plate kit on my polisher. Any ideas or comments?

Mikertt,

I didn't think there was an issue of the backing plate fitting. I apologize for the delay in responding.
I believe we have an export version at our facility that I can check on tomorrow and report back.

Thanks for being patient and we'll see if we can figure it out

Thanks,
Dave

As far as I know, it should work as normal.

I'll let David at LC know about this thread and let him chime in...

Thank you so much Mike, you are the best!

Thank you for looking into it for me David. I appreciate it. I love the backing plate kit for my US model FLEX back in the states with the hybrid pads. It is just too bad that the nut doesn't fit my export model that I purchased from AG to use here in Thailand. I can't go back to get my other FLEX since I don't go back to California until November. The teeth for the plates all line up fine, just the nut that is the problem.

Just a wild a** guess here, but is it possible that the it may be metric?

I initially wondered about that also, but I checked my US version and the socket head cap screw is metric with M8 thread.

I did check our export model here at the factory and I didn't have any issues with the plate or bolt fitting.

Could you maybe send me a couple pictures to ensure that I understand 100%?

I used the same metric bolt and plate kit that we offer. Could it maybe be damaged threads on the bolt or even on the machine?

It could very well be a damaged thread. On mine I recently lightly cross threaded the 8MM female thread when installing a side handle. I stopped immediately, but original bolt wouldn't start in the thread and it had the feeling of being "too big". I just ran an 8MM tap to lightly chase the threads and all was good again.

I don't know if the threads on the pad holder mechanism are as soft, but could be worth a check.

Thank you for getting back to me very fast Dave. I'll take some photos tomorrow afternoon. It is a few minutes past midnight here on the other side of the world.

I'm hoping it isn't damaged on the female side which is on the FLEX. I've only removed the nut a couple of times to put oil on the felt ring. The original nut goes back in without any issues. I will say that the export version runs very very hot. It runs about twice or even three times as hot as my US 3401 model.

Hi Dave, I actually went back to play around with it some more. I got the nut to fit finally. I guess messing around with it the other day helped. The nut was able to go on easily without any plates attached. I then put on the 4 inch plate on first and it screwed in okay. When I put the 6 inch plate on, it had issues. I found out it was actually with the two shims included with the kit. I guess the holes weren't perfectly lined up with the receptacle below on the polisher thus giving me a nut that wouldn't sit straight on the receptacle. I spun the shims around a few times and the nut was able to go on. It could also be that the receptacle on the polisher might not be perfectly in the same position as my other US FLEX, like it might be off but just a hair, who knows? I guess it is just one of those things. Again thanks to you and Mike P. for coming to my rescue even. You guys are the best.
