To layer or not layer LSPs?

I haven't and never will layer.

The main reason I hear of people doing this to "make sure I didn't miss a spot". Really? do the job right the first time and you don't need to go over it again.

Also it's a proven scientific fact that layering will remove some of the the first coat and therefore you now have less wax on your paint.

Any sealant will bond to the paint and anything else will wipe off.
How much wax/sealant do you think is actually bonds to the paint?
A microscopic layer is stuck to the paint adding more product will remove some of the microscopic layer due to solvents in the wax/sealent and thus providing less protection

I'm here to polish paint and collect money. period.
doing 2x the work with 2x the product make absolutely no sense to me, never has and never will.

waste of time and money.

If layering was a good thing then why wouldn't you do 3, 4, 5, 6 or 20 coats?
It does nothing and actually more harm then good.

I did a test on the hood on my wife's Equinox of BFWD by itself on one side and the BFWD and BFMS combo on the other side. The combo side was a little shinier but I let them go for endurance and both sides lasted about the same.

So at least with Blackfire, the difference is cosmetic, not duration.

I never layer on customers cars. They don't pay for it and i don't do it unless they ask for it after the next wash.

However, i do layer on my own car. I do a second layer of BFWD to even out the coverage after the first layer that is machine applied. Even though i am very good at this stuff, i still have heavier and lighter layers of the first coat. So i do a different pattern for the second layer.

I also use Carnauba's twice a year for our bug seasons. I do like the look of it also.

GreyStang nailed it for me...i don't understand all the science stuff other than the chemistry basics so...

I layer for a look and if i like that "look", watch the durability. If it works for me then it works!
