Seems as if there will no longer be a "Permanent" consumer level coating from optimum
I don't think it should have been labeled as permanent to begin with. So maybe they are just being more realistic.

I'm sure they still consider OCP to be a "permanent" coating even though it will only have a 5 year warranty.
also, i'd be willing to bet that the Gloss-Coat product is superior to 2.0 in every way
From what I have gathered so far opti gloss will be a 2 year life coating.

I would also like that to be true, however I know that in the pro detailer ranks there was a LOT of pressure to keep Opti-Coat pro only from the beginning, and to make the pro installer program even more restrictive than it has been, with exclusive territories, etc.
We've already seen the interior product come out and it be stated there would be no consumer version. I can see there being pressure from the pro installer community to "degrade" the consumer version so it's non-competitive with the Pro version.
2 years? that's a disappointment.. but thanks for sharing

by who? certainly not the manufacturer. OPT does almost zero marketing that i've seen.
either way, there are plenty of pros all over the world who will refute your statement. they make a living installing OPT stuff.
Opticoat has been sold as a lifetime coating...now it is considered a 5 year. Seemed over-hyped to me.
[/I]also, considering the five year warranty, are there any real competitors offering anything better? i'm curious about that.
I think the problem is how do you warranty a "lifetime" coating? When the metal rusts away from underneath it will Dr. G have to buy you a new car?
2 PM's have been sent.

Great way of giving back! I may have to follow your example.
If your OC2.0 does not end up with Bob,
I would love to send him mine I think I have 10cc left over).
a lifetime warranty is overkill, agreed. i'm just curious if anyone even offers a competitive warranty with their coatings before anyone reads too far into the five year number
five years is pretty extreme! we've all become so spoiled, hahahaha!!!!

Ain't that the truth. Speaking for myself, I was so...enraged? that they initially refused to make a consumer version of Opti-Coat, and it took me a long time to get over the fact that the consumer version was a "degraded" version of the pro product, that this evening I feel kicked in the gut that the consumer product may have been further degraded.
I'm hoping that Dr. G has in fact improved on OC 2.0 with the Gloss-Coat product, and that the life of the coatings being bandied about is simply Dr. G trying to reset expectations from the "indestructible force field" as the quote from Chris Thomas alluded to earlier.
PS I notice Chris's store has neither the OC 2.0 nor the Gloss-Coat for sale right now.
PPS No Allenk4, no walls were punched thru due to my disappointment over consumer versions of Opti-Coat.
