Review: Optimum Gloss Coat

If Gloss Coat does everything OPT claims it will do, then it is equivalent to the results we have heard in many, many reviews of products like CQuartz and others that are 1/3rd the price per application

I believe OPT has out-priced the market.

Maybe, hobbyist sales is not OPT's focus

You could just send him a PM, instead of hoping he will see your message in this thread

actually that doesnt work. He doesnt get his PM's on here because he uses an app (tapatalk Im assuming) and has stated so many times. Ive sent more then one PM. And he created this thread, so its a pretty safe bet he will see it.

10cc's...$60.00....biggest con job ever.
The application of certain Coatings by this:
"Pro Only Baloney (balogna)"---surely you've seen those obscene prices!!! ---Now this is what I must call a genuine con job: Affirming its worthiness towards the reminiscing, that, throughout our history:

America has, seemingly, always admired a good confidence artist!! Those direct descendants of mythical/mystical anti-heroes like:
Noir Detectives; and The Fonzie...OOOPS!...The Ponzies, that similarly "Madoff" with other piles of someones
hard-earned cash.

Thanks for posting this review and starting this long term reporting on this new product Chris. I have a tube of it sitting in my stash that I've been wanting to try out and since there's so little reviews on this product yet (unsurprising since it's so new) I had almost considered making a review myself and posting it.

Any chance you could post some more shots of the car when it's sunny out? I'm curious to this gloss vs glassy look as you mentioned. It almost appears as if the gloss coat is a muted shine? But that could simply be the cloudy weather or even the color of your paint. Hard to tell. I definitely want to see more before I commit to doing my whole car with this.

I just cleaned my rims on my car today and had considered using this on them to see how it looks before applying to my whole car. But mainly I am very interested in gloss coats claim of increased dirt release. My BMW just LOVES to turn my silver wheels BLACK! So I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on how much this makes your car easier to clean vs other coatings you've tried in the past.

Very nice review Chris!!! That Carolla looks incredible now! Thanks for the review.

You mentioned removing it from the syringe and using a pump head sprayer for application. Going this route, how did it perform spraying?

Nice work, Chris! Your Corolla is super glossy now! I'll be interested to see the updates. Is your Corolla parked outside 24/7?

Wouldn't you still get an email notifying you of the PM? Or no?

I'm not sure. Have to ask him I guess. I get notifications..

I'm not the one that compared a wax to a coating...you did. However, when comparing a coating to coating PBL vs Gloss-Coat the amount of cars you can do is a consideration when evaluating the price.

(For the record...I would never buy PBL for that price anyway...especially when CQUK is 50.00 for 30cc's).

From what I've read people have posted your lucky to get one car from Gloss-Coat.

I'm not trying to prevent you from loving Gloss-Coat. I don't like the marketing strategy of Optimum or the direction of their company. In fact, I won't buy another product from them. In my opinion there are too many other good products offered from other vendors.

One thing is for sure, Optimum has been one of the true coating to REALLY hold up over the long haul. Not sure about Gloss-Coat, but with their other coatings the durability results speak for themselves. When most other coatings are gone from bad maintenance or chemical damage, Optimum still stands strong above the rest.

If you had to bet on a coating still being on paint after spraying it down with undiluted APC's and other chemicals. which would you bet would still be on the paint out of CQ, Pinnacle, or Optimum.... also which one do you think most detailers bet on ?

For this alone I can see the premium they are charging over other coatings.

I will grab some sun shots next time I have the chance, I'm mostly indoors today working but I'll try and sneak out at some point.

Thanks Mike, coming from you thats pretty awesome, as I admire your work! As for transferring to a sprayer, it performed flawlessly Mike. It wasn't to thick to come through the straw to the sprayer. Plus I find this way, I can control the product better. I am "heavy" handed and I've pushed too much out of the syringe before. Once transferred to the spray bottle, it felt and applied no different then a crystal seal, black label, sealants and coatings like that! I applied OC in the past this way too, Chris@OPT and Troy Scherer both discussed at length using a sprayer, I stole it from them, lol....

Nice work, Chris! Your Corolla is super glossy now! I'll be interested to see the updates. Is your Corolla parked outside 24/7?

it's outside about 3-4 days a week all day, the other days it is garaged and out split time basically. Its a daily driver most days, and an errand runner other days, its as close to a DD we have here(both the wifey and I live close to our work, we walk or train) Car is garaged every night

This glossy vs glassy look and the muted shine in the pics caught my eye also. Maybe it was just cloud cover like mentioned above.

Question. is O-GC by any chance darkening the paint?

I'll try and update pics today or tomorrow is some sun, its a beautiful week ahead here in so cal so soon, promise.

I did notice OGC darkening the pain a little yes, ever so slightly but yes it did. I have metallic in my paint, and it is not as prominant as it is with some waxes and sealants. However, my paint is really really weird. Toyota has some crazy paint systems, and my paint reacts so differently to all sorts of products, so I can't say if it will mute or darken your paint.

just some random quick shots as I step out to get some coffee, via my iPhone.

Taking a road trip up the coast of California this weekend. About 500 round trip, nice bugs, road filth, rain, should be a fun test for a wash after its all done.

Should I be feeling bad that I'm kinda excited that you'll be getting your car dirty? Haha

Very interested to hear how the coating turns out. Will it be very resistant to marring and swirls? Good dirt release properties as advertised?? How about retaining that glossiness??? Looking forward to the update. I'm applying OGC to part of my car this weekend if I can manage to not get stuck at work all day this Saturday again. (Saving other panels for tests with other goodies!)

By the way, the sun shots helped a lot in better evaluating the looks of OGC on your car. Thanks for posting.
