Car on FIRE!

I don't always like flames on a car but for some cars it's the perfect look.

The finishing touch after the painter does his part is to polish the paint to perfection so the clearcoat is so clear and glossy that the flames look like they could jump out of the paint and burn you!

Steps
  1. Chemically strip paint.
  2. Mechanically decontaminate paint.
  3. Machine compound.
  4. Machine polish.
  5. Machine wax with Synergy Paste Wax
.

Thanks Luc for trusting my with your incredibly cool 1941 Chrysler Business Man's Coupe.

Also, these results on this car wre created using the techniques I share in this new book. In fact, this car is on the cover of the new book.

The picture of the Clay in the other thread was a real eye opener

I would never have thought there would be that much contamination in a Garage Queen Show Car like this one

Beautiful work Mike. That is one bad looking ride. How long did it take you to finish, just curious?

I just burned my eyes looking at that beautiful hot rod! Nicely done Mike! What a show stopper!

The owner shows this car a lot and most of the time it seems to get most of the attention. It will probably be here at Detail Fest...

I was surprised too. I chose a white clay bar on purpose to really show how much crud was on the paint. Sometimes, when it's paint overspray the white clay will make it easy to see what is the color of the paint overspray. This just looks like air pollution and industrial fallout type stuff.

The paint was really rough to the touch but it was still very shiny, I think this is what fools people into thinking that the paint is in great condition because it's shiny and a show car but that's usually just not the case.

After claying the hood though, I switched right over to the Medium Nanoskin pads and bulldozed the paint using the Flex 3401.

Thanks Chris and thanks for offering to help with this project. I was supposed to do it on Saturday but did this Nova instead so I knocked it out on Sunday after church.

How long did it take you to finish, just curious?

I started at noon with the Nanoskin and that took about an hour and 15 minutes.

Then Frank showed up and we tag teamed this car compounding and polishing the car and only waxing the roof and we stopped at 6:00pm so that's a total of about 11 hours.

I had one hour into chemically stripping the paint so that puts the job at 12 hours.

30 minutes to machine apply the Synergy. that's 12. 5 hours.

Then wiping the wax off took about an hour including edging and jamming. So that's about 13.5 hours total.

Then I machine polished the dash and that took about 30 minutes including wiping the wax off so a grand total of about 14 hours.

There's a few RIDS here and there that I'm pretty sure I could machine sand out if it's important to Luc and I'll leave that up to him when he picks up the car.

:)

Great work on that car Mike, if I'm not mistaken I saw some pictures of it with tons of holograms, it's the same car? Can't be!

It's a true Show Car, and now it's properly detailed. Congratulations, for you and Frank who worked side-to-side on this one.

Thanks for sharing,

PS: Those pictures sells Synergy ! Very Well Done.

Mike what does RIDS stand for? Thanks Frank

"Random Isolated Deep Scratches"

Whoever painted that car was truly an artist. Just mind blowing! You can't blame the painter for what happens after he does his artistry.

Oh yes it can be. The reason I chemically stripped the paint three times was to remove any previously applied waxes, sealants or any gloss enhancers, etc. off the paint so when I moved the car out into full, overhead sunshine I could capture the true condition of the paint and I can assure you....

I have the swirl shots....

Mike what does RIDS stand for? Thanks Frank

It's actually a term for the detailing industry that I coined in the 1990's. Here's my article that documents the term and the history behind it.

RIDS - The Definition of RIDS and the story behind the term...

Kind of like the terms LSP and Test Spot, it's always interesting to see these terms used throughout the industry.
