Just picked up a bottle that was on clearance. I've got a few questions I wanted to ask here because i'm not seeing many indepth reviews of this product on the forums (that would typically answer the types of questions i'm asking.

- Does this glass coatings cause the wipers to chatter or hop ? Or do they run smooth ?

- What polish should I use on the glass first ? Can I use paint polish in place of glass polish if i'm just trying to strip the windows ?

- Lastly for anyone who has used this glass coating, do you have any tips you would suggest ? I have Opti-Glass and PBL Glass coating. Should I pick one over the other for any specific reason as far as application, removal and performance ? I would prefer to use the product that is easier to use. I'm not so much worried about durability as I am performance and ease of use.

the last thing I want is for the coating to make my wipers chatter. I absolutely hate that and knowing how super durable optimum coatings are I would hate to have to try to strip if from the front windshield.

TIA

From my limited experience with it, it does not cause chatter or hop. Yes, you can prep with a paint polish; they recommend an IPA wipe before application. I haven't used the PBL glass coating, but Opti-Glass is super easy. Opti-Glass is completely different than Opti-Coat or Opti-Lens...although I'm not sure what it would take to polish it off if you didn't like it.

My one caution is if you have a windshield that has rock chips/pits, be careful to try and clean any polish residue out of the pits before you apply the Opti-Glass.

Carpro forte (their latest glass coating) in a YouTube video also emphasised their product to be non chatting/hopping and showed it side by side with a famous glass coating with 2 year durability (which IMO they were referring to optimum) and one viper was making noise and the other on forte side wasn't.

Thank you Setec. I appreciate the info and will go ahead with the opti-glass application.

I can tell from the viscosity and sprayer that the application looks to be dramatically different than the optimum paint coatings.

no noise or issues and i currently live with several coated windshields. polish - yes, absolutely. just don't use something like Poli-Seal to prep for coating. i use OPT Hyper Polish. whatever you use, clean well with IPA solution.

application can be funky but you will get the hang of it. keep the pad well-primed and apply the coating from the pad to the glass in small circles and small areas. let it set up a bit then go over it lightly with a microfiber and check your work carefully for high spots. if application feels "sticky" when going in the circles, then you need more product on it.

Theres a lot of popular glass coatings on the market with 2 years claimed durability. Including Gtechniq which I believe to be Carpro's biggest competitor worldwide. Wiper chatter/hopping is also a very well known trait of Gtechniq glass coating.

Unless I am missing something from Carpro video, I dont see any information that would make a person come to the conclusion that it was Opti-Glass being used as a comparison in the test other than just blindly guessing. Also Optimum Opti-glass claims a 1 year durability.

Am I missing something here or have you heard that Opti-glass is the product being used as a comparison ?

They labelled it as a famous coating with 2 year durability, so I perceived it as opt. Could possibly be gtechniq if that's their main competitor.

No windshield wiper chatter. I've read about some people having some issues with the PBL glass coating. Could be application issues. I use the CarPro block covered by a suede microfiber cloth and it seems to work very well.

I plan using the same applicator like you described. Its just so much easier to make an even application using this or a MF applicator compared to yellow foam.

Regarding the PBL glass coat, are the issues being discussed about wipe chatter ?

I applied it to all glass on my DD Grand Cherokee 7 months ago and it's still performing like day 1..
- No issues with wipers, they run smooth.
- Mine was only 3 months old so all the prep work I've done was claying and IPA wipe down.
- Tips from my experience with it:
1) don't use the supplied yellow ufo applicator, get a good coating applicator like Optimum dual pro, CarPro block + suede cloth or Lake Country coating applicator.
2) Don't use too little product, a thin layer won't last as long as a good layer IMO and don't worry about high spots, easily removed with the applicator or a MF towel right after application.

No not chatter. No durability, some have said a couple weeks. Some very experienced Detailer's have had issues. Someone from AG said there was probably one step they either didn't do or didn't do properly. Not sure, but I love the Opti glass.

They are referring to Gtechniq G1: there are endless threads in the UK about wiper chatter caused by this product - I have been using it for years and never had any issues. Maybe luck I guess...

Thank you ! this thread really helped me out in making my decision on what product to use.

Which applicator did you wind up using when you applied ?

Does anybody know if OPTI-GLASS can be layered or "topped up" at a later date ?

that is , without first scuffing or removing the original coat.

I love opti-glass and I have no reason to try another until I finish the container.

I used it on several cars including my daily driver. It was applied on June 2013 and I sold it two weeks ago. I saw most of the beading had diminished around end of August 2014.

For my prep, I cleaned off any films build up on the glass with paint polish (M205) and an orange pad then follow by IPA wipe down. I applied opti-coat to all glass surfaces and including the side mirrors.

I had no troubles with the wipers, and of course with opti-coat on my windshield I did not need to use it as much when it rained. About 90% of wiper usage was to clean the windshield when I sprayed windshield fluid.

If I had kept the car I would wipe down the glass with IPA and apply another layer, but I don't see any benefits in layering opti-glass under a year.
