Which coating will fill the Opti-Coat 2.0 void?

dude "permanent" (re: Pro) is such a relative term. i'll tell you why. in detailing terms, which have no official standard, it's not permanent...i guess because the warranty isn't marked as "forever".

in industrial terms...for those who deal with paint and coatings...it's truly graded as permanent. Dr. G spent quite a bit of time to run it through industry standard tests to validate that fact.

^^^That's Wrong...^^^
OC Pro is no longer a "permanent" Coating!

Bob

Why do you say that OC Pro is no longer permanent?

I don't understand what you are trying to tell me

The manufacturer claims it is. Never having used it I don't know. Do you have reason to believe it isn't?

Please post the verbiage from the manufacturers claim that OCP is permanent

I did not come here to argue with you, Bob. I'm just trying to get some information about coatings, so if you're only here to argue with everyone, then please go.

Thank you everyone else for the info.

Please post the verbiage from the manufacturers claim that OCP is permanent

From Optimum's website: "Opti-Coat has better chemical resistance, scratch & mar resistance, and release properties than any automotive paint coating in use. It provides permanent protection for all modern factory paints and can also be used to protect metal and hard plastic surfaces."

Seems like it's still just as permanent as before, they just just reworked the warranty verbiage.

I think that may be the old verbiage, I could not find it on the OPT website.

Can you post a link to it?

Are links allowed, I'm still kinda new on here and wanna make sure I play by the rules.

If you go to Opti-coat dot net and click on the drop down menu for "Coating Products" and then click on Opti-Coat Ceramic Clear Coating then it's all right there. What I copy and pasted was the third paragraph, and their chart/table thingy even lists its durability as "unlimited"

Hope that helps, and if I can post a link, just let me know, just don't wanna break the rules :)

Found it:

Opti-Coat Ceramic Clear Coating

Surprised they are still making the claim of permanence, but won't back it up with a warranty anymore

Wishful thinking that OPT will ever explain in any detail why they dc'd OC 2.0 and cut their warranty claim all the way down to 5 years

I liked the idea of a permanent coating, until I used it. My OC 2.0 has been on my hood for 5 months, it's already been etched twice by bird droppings and sap (and it's garaged). I think the coating will stick to my clear coat permanently, but aesthetically, I probably won't be able to stand it more than a year or two. I'm much more annoyed by the price increase of Opti-Gloss than I am by the fact that it is no longer "permanent."

So does anyone else have experience with coatings other than OC2? Sorry, I appreciate all the input, just trying to get back to alternatives since OC2 is now out of the question for most of us.

The most popular alternatives you'll find are
CQuartz
GTechniq C1/Exo V2
Black Label Paint Coating
Gloss Coat

im having a problem with opt as well. tried to get there pro version but at $300 minimum buy a month....i'm looking at cquartz finest...which apparently isn't branching to my area yet.....so I'm screwed...might do the cquartz uk/black label coating thing for a while until i can get some real stuff. actually kinda pissed considering i'm actually a legit detailing business.....and I can't get my hands on the best coatings without paying 1000's......facepalm...seriously...

Right now I'm selling DP Paint Coating and Duragloss envrioshield. Got sick of the games/high prices of the higher end coatings.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using AG Online

I wonder what the cost per vehicle each coating averages out to.

I know for OC 2.0 I've coated both of my vehicles and can't run through the tube. Granted they're small to medium sized and I skip out on double coating it but I only used 5-8 cc's for the paint only.

considering the cost of opt's pro coating which is hundreds....thus hundreds for the customer. one application is very expensive. now for cquartz.....not as expensive but still kinda pricey .....at least you get 2 coatings (2-3 microns).
