So today I went to the Sacramento International Auto Show, which is put on by the area New Car Dealer's Association. After looking at all the new cars from all the dealers I was amazed by the lack of real detailing on most of the vehicles. My photos don't do justice to the nice looking vehicles but then that also hides the bad finish on many vehicles.

There were a few brands that had "detailers" keeping the dust off, but it was obvious that more time could've been spent on most of the vehicles on display. And I thought there would also be a detailing company or two with a booth trying to drum up business. In fact, I was looking to spend money on supplies but had to keep it in my pocket because there was not a detail business in sight.

those guys are called wipers, they wipe, and wipe and wipe and ruin the finish.

You also have to understand....to 90+% of the people handling those cars - - THE FINISH IS FLAWLESS. They don't notice swirls and scratches. They think that driving through a carwash is just NORMAL and have no clue about how many scratches they are getting from that.

More than likely, they drive WHITE CARS as well.:dunno:

For a good comparison, I am sure you watch Barrett-Jackson. Just watch how the Mothers Polish wipers handle the cars coming on stage. They are using the correct products and KNOW what they're doing with said products.

It's all relative brotha.

It all comes down to one thing only.

Money.

A perfectly corrected finish in the showroom just doesn't sell anymore cars.

It's sad but the average man or woman off the street just doesn't notice the same things we do.

And they don't want to either.

You beat me to it, Dealers are only interested in their bottom line, they don't care if the car looks (to people like us) like it has just been wet-sanded as long as it sells for top dollar.

And the average buyer wouldn't know (or care) if a car was just wiped down with steel wool or a microfiber, after all, they both clean off dirt right?

Wait a minute!!
I was under the impression that savvy Dealerships do show how much they care...by continually trying to up-sell those special Sealants...such as: Simoniz-5, and Xzilon. :D
