TORQ10FX Random Orbital

I had a chance to check out this polisher last weekend and to see the internal wiring. I was given the option, but opted not to use it.

My $.02

  • The digital switch is a joke and looks like it came off of a toy from the dollar store, no joke!
  • It would drive me nuts having to turn the switch on and then hit the +/- every time to get to the speed I want. If it remembered the speed you last had it set on it wouldn't be so bad.
  • The internal wiring looked like a 5yr old did it!
  • The finish on the head looked like it was painted with a rattle can
  • Backing plate was very soft and cheap

I'm sure it's a very capable tool, but I just can't get past the internal wiring and that switch...for less money I would just go with a GG6 or G110v2.

good feedback imo

picked up a GG6 this week.

PS - i'd never use any CG anyway, no matter who re-sells it. customer service track record is tooooo sketchy.

Hello Guys,
I'm not trying to change the subject but I would like to ask you this if you have the new Meg DA MT300, CG Toroq 10FX, GG 6", PC7424XP, and Meg G110V2. Which one you will pick in confidence and why.

I have the gg6 and torqfx I love them both but i have more confidence in the gg6 it's a workhorse. I haven't had my torq long enough to know what it's made of but I will say I love how smooth it feels and sounds

the GG6 is great DA with plenty of power/torque and also offers a great warranty with good customer service which is important as the product itself IMO. everyone (i've said this too many times) should own at least one traditional style DA and this coupled with the right pads/products can do just about anything you need it to. it's versatile and you can do a variety of tasks with it, and you'll always have a back-up as well if you decide to get another polisher. i don't have enough confidence in CG's customer service to buy the torq10fx let alone any product of theirs anymore these days...

I agree with their customer service. Who processes an order, and still hasn't processed the transaction - almost a month later?!

As far as those machines go, I've only used of the ones listed, is the Porter Cable 7424xp. That thing is a little trooper, and is honestly more than sufficient for what I need it for.

if you ever have any problems with your pcxp at some point and need another traditional style DA, do yourself a favor and pick up the GG6, you won't be disappointed...

I agree with your advice - what I'm trying to do is to narrow done the selection for my self to pick from the following:
1- GG 6"
2- Megs 110V2
3- or the new Meg MT300

The good thing is that the above three DA sharring the 8mm throw, however each one have pros and cons. I'm not sure yet which one I'll go for as the 8mm as concern, BTW I have PC7242XP despite I like it but I believe it's lacking the power for certain jobs.

If that's the case DO NOT GET the Megs 110v2. Its basically the exact same thing as the pc 7424xp. If I were in your shoes I would pick up the MT300 and get a 3.5" bp for your pc7424xp and dedicate it to small areas.

Thanks Caleb for your inputs - but is that true Meg 110V2 is the same as PC7424XP; I thought the Megs has cruise control feature which is not exist on the PC7424XP. May be I'm wrong!!

if you were torn between the XP and g110v2, then the cruise control is a selling point...maybe, since the Meg's piece is also more expensive. i think the XP is SLIGHTLY more powerful and has a better warranty but Megs is a good company and would probably take care of you in a similar time frame if something happened.

but you already have the XP.

the output of the GG6 motor trumps both, by far, and imo that negates the cruise control aspect, not to mention the lifetime warranty from a reputable company like Griot's Garage.

for what it's worth, i have used a pre-XP PC and a Makita 9227 for the past several years and picked up a GG6 this week.

I think I've already said this once in this thread, but do we know that the G110 is going to be a continuing model, or whether it will be replaced by the G300?

browsing through CL and saw this polisher with essentially the same exact digital speed switch of the torq10fx and all these copies (for less than a $100 new) look cheap and aren't very expensive at all. just goes to show you the mark-up cg's has on these...

I have this exact model , it's a backup for me, nothing special but one thing I like about it is it's light.
Something I hate about it is I have to hit the button 3-4 times to get it up to speed and the same to bring it back down.
No time for it.

Been using my torque for all my recent corrections and it's holding up well, gets the job done smooth and light with plenty of power!

Thats a rotary polisher. Not D/A. Its like comparing apples and oranges.

I know it's a rotary, I'm referring to the resemblance of the cheap looking switch in regards to rasky's comment which is similar to the polisher in question in this thread...

mods please close this thread, much better options to choose from these days...
