So I think im ready to move up to a orbital, but not sure which to go with the griots 6" or the porter cable 7424xp. More then likley ill grab the 3" griots but for starting point id like a 6", just can't decide so any help would be appreciated
 
Welcome to autogeek......I would go for a Groits Garage 6in for the fact that it has a hassle free lifetime warranty, very comfortable to use , and you can the 5.5 and 3 inch backing plates with the corresponding pads for even more usage of the machine

What is your budget?

How many cars will you be polishing out per year?

What is the condition of the paint on those cars?


Maybe there is Forum Member close to you that would let you demo his/her polisher(s)

i've said many times before, everyone should own at least one traditional style PC style DA (it's always nice to have a back-up). the GG6 is priced competitively, has lots of torque, and an excellent no hassle warranty. the versatility of being able to use a smaller backing plate and pads along with a carpet brush attachment is a plus too. if price is an issue, i would buy a HF DA instead of the PCXP without hesitation (has more torque and i like the feel/body better) and it's half the price. with the ever so growing new technology of polishes, compounds and pads, there really isn't much you can't do...
 
To all I should have done a little more research or gave more info so here goes ill try lol.
-im a hobbiest so probably including my car friends & family cars 20-30 cars
-budget -$180 for a first one
- paint types will vary
-id love to get a flex or ruppes but there a bit much to start out with but great machines.
- id never use a 3" on a whole car that one would b for motorcycles &headlights, wheels, glass ect, but now that I know the gg6 will except both backing plates & a no hassle warranty hmmm
-i absolutely appreciate all the replies im dying to tackle my cts at the moment I've been using the Chadwick triple play
 
With that budget and further info i will add my opinion on it. I also like the idea of a "starter machine" but one that accomodates both 3" and 5-6" capabilities. Again folks, that's just my opinion but with versatility in mind and $180, a lifetime warranty and a stronger "feel" would weigh pretty heavy in my decision. As i progressed and those 20-30 cars turned into maybe 50-75 cars i would relegate that starter machine to maybe 3" duty only and have a Flex for the overall work.

And i can appreciate allen's comments above. With so much the market has to offer these days i would certainly want to consider all options given Christo's situation. Having said that, i tend to lean towards VISITOR's thinking on a good, reliable yet versatile ROB. Again, if he advances to want more machine in the future he will still have a good backup unit.
 
My GG6 does what I want out of a buffing/polishing machine, gets the job done, every time.
Using the right pads and products makes all the difference.

I agree, the 3401 and Rupes 21 cannot do it all, because of the lack of a 2 7/8" BP

If I was starting out again, I would buy the HF and then use the money from the 1st several details to buy a FLEX and relegate the HF to 3-4" pads and the Cyclo scrub brushes (if you don't have the yet....you are missing out)
