Hi Members and AutoGeek staff.

My name is Jeff and I live in Louisville, KY. I am a new forum member who in a short period of time has benefited greatly from the wealth of knowledge provided on this site. I am member of various forums for other interest and I can tell there is a superior level of quality information and professionalism.

I am the enthusiast looking to improve his daily drivers and learn as much as possible. I also have my first son, fifteen months old, who I look forward to teaching things to as he gets older. I have never compounded or polished a car but I did have a year and a half job polishing all sorts of countertops right after high school.

I just made my first purchase a few minutes ago. My wife may flip out once the packages start arriving but I look forward to the next 40 degree day and I will be washing away.

I plan to purchase a polisher in the Spring. I am still conducting research and have narrowed it to three. The Flex PE14-2, Flex 3401 or the Rupes 15. I am leaning mostly towards the Flex 3401.

Any insight/recommendations on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for all the great information and THANKS AutoGeek for the "SANTAELF".

I agree with you that not all forums are friendly or helpful. Thanks for sharing your forum background and your take on this forum.

Hi Jeff, welcome to AGO!

I love the 3401 as its a beast of a machine and will tackle just about anything you throw at it. Best of all, it won't stall out or stop spinning when the going gets complicated.

This machine greatly benefits from the interchangeable backing plate system, 5" Lake Country pads, and Wolfgang/Menzerna polishes.

Here is an article I put together on maximizing the potential of this machine.

Hi Mike, I just want to say Thank You for the videos you put on You Tube. I know from experience I've watched You Tube videos where someone is trying to sell a product.

Out of your videos, I get that you are concerned with prodviding leading industry knowledge and technique, you let the products speak for themselves.

Hi Mike,

I look forward to trying this process and I agree, I feel like the Flex 3401 is the machine for me.

I feel though that the "SMACK" technique is what my wife will use on me when I purchase this.

How many of each pad do you recommend for a full size pickup?

Thank, Jeff

Hi Jeff Welcome to the site. You will learn quite a bit and get many opinions on what products to choose or pick. However, IMO the Flex 3401 is an awesome choice (see my opinion).

I believe it is "hands down" the most effective DA on the market. It is the only DA that is a "forced rotational" DA. All others are free floating DA's.

Awesome way to introduce yourself.

Listen to Yoda Mike Phillips as he is an encyclopedia!

Hi Jeff,

As you are going to be doing a full size truck, I would recommend 4-5 pads of each color. As a bare minimum pick up the Orange and White Hybrid pads.

If you can, pick up a few blue and black so that you have all your bases covered. This way if the orange is to aggressive you can use the blue to cut or vice versa. The black pad can be used for applying wax.
