AG still setting off anti-virus alerts!

I can't comment on hosted images, as that could be the cause...maybe an admin can check those in that thread but it very well could be a false positive. I noticed another person mentioned the same issue, and they also had the same free AV as you. My opinion is it's just a false positive. Maybe there's something funky with the html5 code that's triggering it.

@Builthatch

Please run this program "FREE" from bleeping computers.
Steps
1. Scan
2. Clean
3. Reboot

AdwCleaner Download

NOTE: Only download from "Download Now, bleeping computer"

well, i went full bore with my anti-virus provider company contact and they looked into it extensively.

after looking deeply at exemplar links on autogeekonline.net, this is what they said:

"There is malicious URL in source code evgeneevich.com"

so, admin, if you need more info, please let me know. i am not sure why that would be tied into this site in any capacity, but that's what they said and i am convinced they know what they are talking about.

Which anti virus are u using? Did you try the suggestion in post #42?

im lookin into it now.

weirdest thing, while I was looking at the product page on AG I got a free shipping offer with e-mail address...

Visitor - follow the instructions in post #42 this thread. Most AV's do not clean browsers of spyware. You will be amazed, how much junk is on board your machine. After running ADW Cleaner, insure your AV is up to date, run a full scan, then get a 2nd opinion, via Malwarebytes, or SuperAnitSpyware, or HitManPro.

Antimalware companies do not share, what they found with competitors, 100,000+ new malware(s) hit the net DAILY. One company may miss one, that your 2nd opinion scanner picks up.

AGO may have a promotional thing going on, asking for blah blah, in exchange for ... But when ever your machine does something strange (it never did that before) suspect malware, run at least two dif. scanners & adw cleaner. Note adw is updated often so get a new copy, or if prompted, by an older version of ADW, update.

Well, what VISITOR just said, I too am getting a free-shipping offer plus
15% off from AG with your E-Mail address. Offer appears as a popup. I run McAfee and Malwarebytes up-to-date daily software. Been running them for years. This just started a few days ago.

AG: Are you offering free shipping and 15% from a popup for my E-Mail address? (I didn't think so).

i missed this most before, sorry.

i use avast! for my a/v.

i run regular scans with ccleaner and mbam, on top of the other normal security measures.

it's not my computer.

interestingly enough, i have a lot of bleepingcomputer's popular utilities (combofix, tdssk, etc.) because i am unfortunately responsible for maintaining several laptops for colleagues who are almost completely clueless. great site for removing a lot of those rogue programs that seem to find their way onto a lot of people's machines.

avast! didn't say it was a false positive situation, which is what i submitted the initial request under, but they specifically cited something that, to them, is potentially malicious. i have admin looking into it but haven't heard back so they might have not found anything to coincide with what avast claims.

thanks for the suggestions though.

I've been getting this too...and the first time I entered my email address. :bash: My av trial has expired too. Crap!

builthatch - ccleaner has nothing to do with computer security, it removes junk files, not required.

MBAM - is great, it must be updated before scanning, GR8 2nd opinion scanner complements Avast very nicely.

Combofix is a dangerous tool & should be used only to generate a "log" the uploaded to someone trained to interpret it. I use this only when it's 4th & long & no time left on the clock.

TDS Killer - is only for rootkits, where the file hides itself from the OS. Kaspersky makes this tool & should be done on a known infected machine, caution this also finds or generates FP's (false positives)

If you haven't run into trouble using these tools GREAT, but be very cautious, before deleting.

Which brings us to BROWSERS, do you get the same error msg using different Browsers?

You should run ADW Cleaner as it specifically hunts malware, which attaches to browsers. AVAST, MBAM etc. do not look & identify browser related malware. The only other tool that I know for sure, that targets the same is JRT aka Junkware Removal Tool also available at bleeping.

Should you decide to run it, after the scan click log, notepad will open & you will see a long long list of, items to be removed (nothing good will be removed) only known maleware that hides in browsers, will be gone, when you press "clean"

The reason I suspect this is, many here probably use AVAST & so far your the only one complaining. I also curious if it occurs in all browsers, you may get this using IE, them a spyware may just target one browser.

i was just listing my regular protocols. ccleaner to clean up junk, mbam to check for malware, avast! for real time protection and security stuff like firewall and whatever windows runs by default...defender? i dunno anymore.

and i have the other "bleeping-spec" stuff because of having to rescue systems in the past. adw is one of them.

i ran an updated version of the adw utility and it had a few things in registry. leftover stuff. also found a few older folders from some coupon clipping program i used before. deleted them all and it still does it.

happens on chrome and firefox. same exact thing happens with both.

like i said, i doubt avast corporate would identify something in our dialogue if they asked me for a specific set of links that i know does it and then come back and say "yes, it's this" if they didn't truly think it's that thing. i mean, maybe they would, but that would be very strange for them to do that.

through the years this has come up several times on AG and autopia. when i started this thread in January of this year, others confirmed it was happening to them as well, particularly with avast. it will go away...and then come back. and it seems to be happening mostly when i open older threads.

for now, i have this site in the exclusions list, but i know that's not really ideal. they refuse to call it a false positive at avast because of what they found, so...what other choice do i have.

Okay since this is pretty much our first conversation, I have/had, no idea where your skills were.

Windows Defender is an AV provided with windows, in previous versions, it was called Microsoft Security Essentials. Both should be turned off, normally when installing another AV it turns off the windows AV.

Great now that MBAM, AVAST, & ADW all concur no harmful software found & you can replicate the problem in two separate browser + you claim other AVAST user experience the same problem.

Is this Avast free or paid, if free you should consider an alternative AV. I would suggest 360 safe Total.

If paid or otherwise wish to remain with Avast, note the exact error msg. Then exclude it from within Avast.

oh i have minimal skills, haha.

it's the free one. i have it excluded right now to maintain sanity.

Scroll down towards the bottom & check out the list of features!

360 Total Security | Download Free Antivirus for PC

My business now is cleaning up malware infections, & teaching classes regarding malware.

This free AV won't nag for purchase, the business model is free to consumers, who will then advocate it at work! It consistently outperforms many paid & free AV's, due to it's multiple AV engine(s) four in total: Uses Avira, Bitdefender, in house proprietary, & cloud engines.

I got an email with a link to click on in order to complete getting the code. This email was supposedly sent to me by Meghan. I clicked on the link since it was supposedly from her on this forum, but I also sent a reply email asking Meghan to send me a pm via this forum to confirm to me is the email was indeed from her. No response yet.

ATTENTION MEGHAN!!! See above, please.
