Can I air dry my microfibers?

I just washed my new MF's and just as I was getting ready to throw them in the dryer I remembered that my wife uses dryer sheets that have a fragrance. I don't want to dry my MF's in the dryer. Can I hang them up in my basement ( dry, dehumidified space, not heated, 55 deg.) Or can I wipe down the inside of the dryer with isopropyl alcohol?

I hang mine to dry. No problems and I've done it for years!

Air drying is fine I did it for awhile but know just use the air dry cycle on the dryer. No dryer sheets go in my dryer though.

I keep a bottle of 40% alcohol next to my washer & dryer and wipe them both down before running a load of microfiber. (FWIW the tubs in both are stainless.)

Shouldn't be a problem.

Drying them in the basement at 55° will likely lead to mold. Unless you have some fans aimed directly at them and a good airflow going on at all times. I'd just wipe down the dryer and use it.

I run a dehumidifier 24/7 so the humidity level stays at 55% year round so no worries there, but I guess I'll wipe it down with alcohol and use it. I wasn't thrilled about having to air dry a whole load of MF's anyway!

My wife uses dryer sheets all the time. I have never wiped the inside of my stainless steel dryer and never had a problem with my micro fiber towels.

This and I dry on low heat. Been doing it for years. I'd need a ton of room to air dry when I do MF laundry.

Ever notice the dust, and other air-borne contaminates, that's flying around and then winds up accumulating around the house, furniture, garage, vehicles, TVs, etc.?

Those same contaminates will also be accumulating on, and then within, your wet hung-up-to-dry MF-towels.

Therefore...IMO:
Less contamination-accrual when
they're dried in the Dryer.

My wife actually has this bar of softener that mounts into a slide-click thingy inside the dryer. The slide is stuck to the dryer tub and the stick of stuff removable by clicking a tab on the end and sliding it out. It's like a big hard stick of underarm deodorant! So I know it's in there, BOY is it in there. Once she threw a load in the dryer when I didn't get to them in time and I yelled at her. Since then she doesn't touch them. I was SUPPOSED TO KNOW that big hunk of wax was stuck inside the dryer of course.

One thing you can do when washing is set up an extra rinse, and an extra spin. I've found that helps get them even fluffier and MUCH dryer before even putting them in the dryer.:xyxthumbs:

We use dryer sheets with our normal laundry. Never done an IPA wipedown. I usually will run the dryer on high heat while the MF's wash which also will help blow out an lint that might still be floating around from the last load of regular laundry. Never had any problems with my MF's. I dry on lowest heat setting. I do set the sensor to "less dry" so they aren't getting more heated drying than they need. Can always add a few more minutes if they aren't quite dry the first time.

I do the extra rinse also. I put white vinegar in the fabric softner thing which goes into the first rinse. So the second rinse is just water.

My basement is too dusty for my MF's to be hang drying. Especially my drying towels, they need quite some time to dry.

No IPA wipedown, no dryer sheet on low heat for the minimal amount of time.

My wife and I have moved away from dryer sheets a while back, around the same time I started this crazy detailing hobby/addiction. We use dryer balls such as these:

No need for IPA wipedown. No vinegar needed (they stink).
I add extra rinse on the wash cycle. When done, I transfer towels directly to dryer set in "delicate temp" mode.
No muss, no fuss.
Towels have held up over the years, I still have and use the original sets I bought from AG.

real talk i get a chuckle about how some people treat their towels. fabergé egg status.

i have a lot of microfiber madness towels and don't treat them half as good as some people do with their most basic towels, haha.

OP...air dry works fine. try it out and see how things pan out. as long as the humidity isn't wacky, you should be fine. i currently hang dry all of mine on a dedicated rack in the laundry room. i've dryer dried them before too, no issues. it's actually easier for me to hang them because we have the dryer in a separate area due to future renovations.

I use fabric softener in my washer but no dryer sheets in the dryer for my regular laundry. Before I run microfiber I run a couple bath towels with MF defergent in the washer then dry them in the dryer then, wash the MF in the washer with MF cleaner and dry them in the dryer. Works fine.

nothing wrong with air drying them, you can also throw them in the dryer for a little while and then take them out and hang them to dry...

Hey guys,
I really appreciate all the feedback. As usual I over think things. I just don't want to compromise the quality and longevity of my MF's. Thanks again!

As mentioned in the other MF laundry threads, I've had blue balls for years. My older top-loading washer has three cycle settings (regular, permanent press/casual and delicate), and I use the permanent press setting with hot water. My water heater is set to around 125°. I use Micro Restore and an extra rinse. I throw everything except mitts and IncrediPads into the dryer with five blue balls and run the dryer on low heat. I find they fluff better and shed any extra lint this way.

For regular mixed textile laundry I've recently switched to merino wool balls.

We were told by the installer when we bought our washer/dryer not to use the sheets.
There is a sensor that controls heat that gets coated, along with a film on lint trap and
the line going outside which attracts lint (fire hazard) from the film. This would be a good
place to do a wipe down wash with leftover/unused mixed Meg's. D-114 in the dryer.

We received exactly the same information about NOT using dryer sheets...and that was 8-9 years ago.
