Ok guys, im new here and this is my first post

Ive always been picky when it comes to detailing my cars

Im looking at a foam cannon for my pressure washer

what are your thoughts?

is this a good idea?

you guys use them? Feed back please
 
First off :welcome:!!

I do use a foam cannon, is it a necessity? No. Is it fun? Yes. Could it be handy? Yes, if the car is overly filthy it helps to brake down caked on stuff easier. Does it add unnecessary time to your wash? Of course if it's on your own well cared for vehicles.

Do you currently use the pressure-washer (as a "pre-wash") prior to performing the "2-bucket" car-washing process?

IMO:
•Even if you, instead, would foam your vehicle (as a "pre-wash")...you'll still need the agitation---that's provided by the 2-Bucket car-washing process---in order to remove the dirt/road film that'll surely be left behind from the foaming step.

•Pressure-washing will more than suffice
as "the pre-wash".

right now my pre wash is just me spending alot of time with the garden hose rinsing and rinsing

Im thinking a foam gun would be more fun, but also help with removing dirt before i even begin the wash

my idea is to rinse with just a power washer, and then foam the vehicle, wait a few minutes for the foam to break down the dirt, rinse again, foam again but then use the 2 bucket method on the 2nd foam to wash?

i have a black truck and anything i can do to eliminate scratches would be good
 
Welcome to the Forum!

I use a foam gun (not cannon, no pressure washer..yet) when my car is extra - dirty and like it for the presoak. Plus, all the neighbors think it's cool / nuts.

LMAO!! Could not have said that any better!!! I use a Foam gun though!!! Blasphemy!!! I will use the foam gun (Sorry Bob and EVOlved) only if my car is really dirty. Usually the 2-bucket method will suffice but I like this comment on this post!!

thanks guys.....being from michigan im going to wait until the weather warms up and im going to order a foam cannon for my pressure washer

Now if only it will warm up and be spring already!
 
Oh no; you can wash your car in the wintertime, for sure. I used to cring when driving my shiny car down the road when it would get splashed with winter sludge by the next car over. Now I look forward to it because it gives me a reason to wash my car.
Waterless washes rock.

I bought a foam canon a few years back. Used it one season and never used it again. I just do the 2 bucket method and call it good.

I have a foam cannon on a pressure washer with the quick release. The quick release is a must or you have to unscrew it every time to rinse. It is fun and puts on a show for anyone that sees you. The foam works good on the dirt and its nice n slick when washing with a 2 bucket method. Welcome to Autogeek. I got addicted last year. Im the MAN

Yea i dont worry about time when im detailing my cars

Right now, with no foam cannon, it take me on average 2 hours to wash and do the interior on my truck. I usually spend 3/4 of a day to do my truck and my wifes car

i think a foam cannon would be better to break down dirt in places that i cant reach.

im going to order one...any suggestions. Im a chemical guys customer already, love their products.....anyone else i should look at?
 
Sounds like you enjoy the work and i am sure you will have fun with the foam cannon. Chemical guys is good stuff and another to look at is Detailers pro. They have formulas made specifically for foam cannons. The more shampoo you put in the more foam you get out.
 
I guess I am on the other end of the spectrum. I bought a foam canon, used it for a season then never used it again. Maybe I didn't have enough build up to see/feel the difference by use the foam canon as a presoak. Just wasn't worth the extra effort for me.
 
I dont post to many pics but this is an attempt to show a Porsche Cayenne pre soaked with the foam canon. I didnt go over board on the shampoo but to get lots of foam it takes a good amount of shampoo. Just as a test i did try to max it out and see how much it could cake on. It was alot and pretty funny. I dont always use it but i am glad i have it. One day i am going to foam someone :laughing:

May want to check out the Ammonyc Regimen.
