So this may seem like a stupid question and I am not afraid to admit that my math skills are not the best. I bought a 32oz spray bottle from Chemical Guys and I was playing around the dilution levels with regular water and I think the dilution ratio according to the bottle is off par. I was wondering if anybody who might own one of these exact bottles can let me know if i am using the ratio chart wrong.

As you can see from the chart, I filled the water line to the 1:1 ratio, which should be 16oz of water correct? but when I pour the water back into a Pyrex measuring cup, the 1:1 ratio is really only 14 oz of water. I know i am probably being to anal but then there is really no point in paying extra for the dilution chart if ifs not accurate to begin with.

I also noticed that the bottle can actually hold a total of 34-36oz.

Ok, I'll play. Where does it come up to when you put in 28 oz? If you fill it to that level after putting product in to the 1:1 mark, you will indeed have 1:1. As a further test, you can measure how much water it takes to get to the, say, 5:1 mark, then see if filling it to the 28oz line works out to 5:1.

Bear in mind that with a bottle that costs a couple of bucks, there is probably some variation (vertically) on where the markings are put on the bottle.

1st picture shows where i put 28oz of water in.

2nd picture shows the 5:1 ratio measuring out in the cup at around 5oz.

I am going to say the dilution is just off, and make my own mark with permanent marker at the dilution ratios i need.

Why would it not be accurate? 1:1 for chemical guys could mean 14oz:14oz.

Are you sure? 5:1 is 6 parts, 28 / 6 = 4.6 oz, you're slightly over the 5:1 line at 5 oz, that seems about right to me.

For what it's worth, I remember years ago there being a lot of confusion over where the "fill line" was on the Meguiar's secondary bottles, and Mike Phillips had to post a thread on MOL about where it was.

please correct me. if i have a 32 oz bottle and I am using my detail spray that's 3:1 ratio at 3 parts water and 1 part product, wouldn't the 3:1 ratio on the bottle be 8 ounces of product to 24 oz of water? it seems as you go higher up on the dilution chart of the bottle like 2:1 and 1:1 the ratios are way off.

I know i am being anal, but I don't want to use too much product if i don't have to. I just wanted to know if i was using the bottle wrong or if the markings are off.

What I'm saying is you have determined what the fill line is (by putting 28oz in). It seems to me from the data you have presented, that the 5:1 line is (fairly) accurate.

You have to consider it to be a 28oz bottle if you want to use their markings. If you want to double check, see how much it takes to get to the 3:1 line (for your example), it should be 7oz.

If you want to use it as a 32oz bottle, you'll have to make your own markings or just measure.

It might be a 32 oz bottle, but where is the fill line on the bottle? The dilution ratios might be based on a 28 oz bottle.

That's one of the questions i have. Where is the fill line?

You located the fill line experimentally. I'm not saying that it shouldn't have one, but as I noted, this happened with the Meg's bottles as well, that the "fill line" was a transition in the bottle, not a marked line.

Secondary Bottles?? fill product height??

You'll note it's the same place you found on the bottle. Case closed.

Do they even sell that bottle here at AG? Perhaps you should be complaining over at CG, I'm sure they will take care of you...won't they?
