Good mechanic - NOT very good with detailing

This kind of stuff happens everyday..thanks to the Internet and social media you really see what is going on out there.

Some good points, some not-so-good points..

Good:
- Uses good soap
- Uses good wash mitt
- Advises users to rinse car first
- Uses an 'Absorber' to dry

Bad:
- Did you see how dark and dirty that 'Absorber' is? And it's 5 years old. After a while, toss it and get a new one. They're $10!
- Dirty as hell Applicator pad. If your Absorber is 5 years old, how old is that applicator? Get a new one. They're $2
- Uses an old house towel to take off wax. Yes, he washed it and it's 'soft' but is it really?
- "And heck if you're lazy, you can pay a wax place to do it for you, but just realize are they gonna do as good a job as you are on your car?" Umm... Maybe it's me, but any 'wax place' worth their salt will do it far better than your average shmoe doing it like Scotty does in this video.

.. just my thougts.

It's better than what some people do though. Where I work we have an unlimited free tunnel wash for anyone who bought a car from us. At the end, people stop, whip out a roll of paper towels and proceed to dry their car. It's a nightmare.

Oh man ! he's a little scary but hey it's better than doing nothing at all I guess.

You know, it wasn't that tremendously long ago when good quality microfiber was in its infancy that soft terry cloth or baby diapers were the go-to recommendation.

Just saying. How soon we forget.

I don't think I could make a wax applicator any dirtier than the one he used if I tried. It looked like it was dropped in some leaves or mulch.

I was also impressed at how clean he keeps the side of his house.

lol, something must have exploded on that wall.

He seems to be helping people try to learn the very basics. Does what he is doing wash and wax the car? Yes. Do I know better methods? Yes!!!!

I wouldn't spend my time negatively criticizing a guy with 300,000 youtube followers and LOTS of videos with GREAT information. Imagine what would happen if everyone started sharing their favorite, most informative video this guy makes, instead of just pissing on his lack of detailing knowledge.

Just my 2cents.

I had to chuckle a bit after watching and reading the comment. In all honestly though, as far as "detailing" goes, I was once told a little bit of common sense goes a long way. Great guy with a ton of knowledge I'm sure. Old school is probably the better term.... But c'mon

A family friend of mine is near 60 years old. Privately owned auto body shop for 40+ years. He has pads in his cabinet that would make most of us AG kringe, but after he repairs and paints a vehicle from an accident for example, that damn paint has a mirror finish. Lol.

I personally keep my MF's, pads, etc super clean but hey, old school is old school I guess. I once said to him do you use a grit guard. What's that? Lol
