Any opinion on Gastonia? And the school district?

I would say some benefits to Gastonia is that it is a bit more "out of the way" compared to Charlotte. It's a bit more country but does have its own shopping center, stores, etc. If you're working inside Charlotte, i85 really fills up during rush hours. I'm looking at moving there myself to save some money on rent. $$$ to live in good parts of Charlotte proper.

I believe Charlotte's schools are a bit better from what I've heard (Mecklenberg County) but alas it is public school in the Southeast. Unless you go to a private, magnet, do AP, or honors, quality is meh mostly.

Both guys coming from New York, may not feel that the Charlotte traffic is that bad until they get on one street that changes names three times but you never turn. HA, that's just a Charlotte poke.
I live about 40 minutes south. I have family in Gastonia and it used to be a smaller town, but it is growing just like all other areas around Charlotte. Rock Hill South Carolina is also a bedroom community for Charlotte. 85 from Charlotte to Gastonia, specifically the Belmont area gets bad during rush hour and I-77 is a joke for most of the rush hour. The city itself though is nice with lots to do and lots of good restaurants.

HUMP

The one from Syracuse doesn't have traffic as such, HAHA. I grew up 30 miles South of Syracuse once your North of NYC (Syracuse is a good 5 hour drive NorthWest) there are no 'real' metro area were traffic is bad.

Cool guys THANKS!! It appears to be what you all have said looking at real estate and google maps. I too am from way up in NY right near Syracuse. Closer to Rochester so not quite as big of a city as Charlotte. The town I live in has alot of apple farmers so I like the "out of the way" places and I also like that its close enough to some industry and shopping. Sounds like I will have to pursue Gastonia and Mecklenburg County etc.

I would live close to where you'll work. EVERYONE I think just goes out to sit on the interstate during rush hours. Otherwise, it is nice here.

Great!!! I see there are alot of jobs posted in Gastonia. I may be making a trip down come spring/summer. Can I let you know and maybe we can meet up sometime?

Sure thing! You're welcome to crash on my couch if you want. (Couch is awesome) Always happy to meet fellow Ager's.

Wow, that would be really nice of you. I may have to bring you a little gift from where I work, if you like beer? I may take you up on that offer. Very generous!!!!

Of course

I really like hard ciders. I like the flavorful beers such as Sunset Wheat or similar. Not up on the motor oil beers. I just cannot enjoy that much flavor lol.

We make Genesee, and Labatt other than Blue and blue light. Magic hat, Narragansett, mikes hard lemonade, and Seagram's wine coolers. Lots a others but can't name them all.

I flew south 18 years ago! I'm in the Queen city area and Don if your tired of the snow, Ashville, Boone is not for you. If you like the mountains and the snow they are very similar to Upstate NY.

Gastonia is an ok area.

there many good parts of Charlotte and bad as well( as in any big city market)

As Hump mentioned Rock Hill is nice and there is Fort mill as well......nice area.

I'm on the east side in Union county (Monroe) nice area and the schools aren't really bad(it's not NY)

Finding work is the most important thing and then finding a good area to live.

as some of the other guys have said rush hour traffic around here is TERRIBLE!!!
485,I85,I77,277 are the main roads to anywhere and they are parking lots by 5pm!

When you do come down shoot me a pm......if I'm not out of town for work I'll help you look for a good area that's right for you.

What are you talking about? We get bad 5 o'clock traffic here. I have been in 5 o'clock traffic in Charlotte. I agree it is no joke. Lol.

Thanks dad07 (forgot your name tho) I will for sure look up everyone in the area. Hey if any of you are looking to get tint done on your cars one of my friends from here owns Sunstoppers of Lake Norman. I'll be checkin out his shop while I'm down too.
