Product Review: PBL Wheel Coating w/ 6month update

@Mike DedicatedPerfection. Have you ever used this product on a customers wheels without removing the wheels from the vehicle?

I have not. I won't coat wheels unless they are removed.

However the coating is very durable and had no issues getting through the winter. I refresh the wheels each upcoming snow season by using the PBL wash and adding two fresh layers of product.

I just performed my first wheel coating today with DP wheel coating on a new set of black painted wheels. The wheels are take offs from a custom conversion and I just wanted black instead of standard silver. I was pleased how simple this coating was to apply. Now I have almost the same 4 oz. that I started with and will be looking for more wheels to coat. My prep work was some Blackfire APC to get some dealer tire dressing off the rims then I used CarPro eraser to clean them before the coating application.I have to admit I feel like the paint is so smooth that nothing will stick to it even air.

Good to hear. Thanks for sharing. :xyxthumbs:

I wonder how well this would work on a Mustang with Brembo brakes. They dust worse than any car I have ever had. It releases easy enough as is, but they are a pain to clean.

I can tell you for sure it will stand up to your demands without issue. My BMW still wears the factory brake pads that are notorious for dusting. Sure repeated heavy deceleration from Autobahn speeds will dust up the wheel pretty bad, it is relatively easy to remove by giving the wheels a thorough pressure wash.

Besides H2o from a power washer, what kind of cleaners can be used to maintain the wheels without removing the wheels coating?
Or what does remove the wheel coating if 1 were to want to remeove it for whatever reason?

If you stay on top of the wheel maintenance you can clean them up with D101 cut to 10:1. For more neglected wheels 4:1 can be used.

Some kind of mechanical abrasion would suffice.

Hmm.. Would that include some wheel brushes? For example Tampico bristle or nylon bristle brushes? Those are my favorite choice for agitating wheels. But the way it sounds brushing may not be needed.

D101 @10:1 sounds easy enough. Spray and rinse?
Maybe even D114 from a spray bottle @1:128 for very light grit with a normL hose.

This stuff sounds/looks really good. Have you tried/compared it to the DP Wheel Coating?
Thx for the most excellent review/insight on this intriguing product.👍🏽

Simply agitating the wheel via brush after an application of an APC will not remove the wheel coating.

Easy enough. IMO I would still agitate the wheel after spraying something onto the surface.

D114 also works very well to clean up the wheel during times when using a hose isn't feasible (winter time) or during a WW/RW.

I have not tried/used/compared DP Wheel Coating.

My pleasure.

I will add on my experience even though Mike already provided some great information.

I have had my wheels coated with PBL since April of 2015 (9 months so far). The coating is holding up very well and is still on the wheels. Beading and sheeting is still very strong. It's proving to be quite durable. Sure makes cleaning the wheels easy.

My cleaning regiment is pretty straight forward.

2 bucket wash = car soap, water and various brushes such as wheel woolies.

Rinseless wash = D114. I pre-soak the wheel and then pull a dedicated wheel towel from my bucket of D114 and wipe the wheel down. Same process I use for the paint.

I have not used a wheel cleaner or APC on my personal wheels in a long time.

I am in Southern California so there is no worry about snow in my area. I also have ceramic brakes so brake dust is not that much of an issue.

It is a great product.

I have not used DP wheel coating but I am fairly certain that it is on par with PBL.

So I just got my product. I thought it would come with an applicator but it didn't. What should I use to apply this stuff? I was bummed. I thought it would have come at least with an applicator of some sort.

Another option for wheels would be the finger pocket applicators. These are much easier to hold on to while working around the spokes.

If you have large flat spokes another option would be the LC coating applicator.
