After non stop talking about detailing in general and that I use Flex machines, A German coworker mentioned that he had an old Flex Grinder that he uses for cutting stone among other things. Today he brought it in to work so I could check it out.

Man what a heavy machine. Probably weighs in at 20lbs or so. You couldn't stand to use this guy to continually polish vertical panels unless you are Schwarzenegger. lol This is a 220v machine with the European M14 threaded shank. This guy is a single speed without a soft start feature. Also when switched on its speed is 6500 rpm!

Very cool to see some old Flex iron next to its newer younger brother. Thought some of you guys may enjoy these pictures.

Please disregard the missing picture notice from photo bucket. It is giving me problems and all are accounted for on the thread. The last picture is supposed too be the first picture.

That's awesome Mike! I'm sure all flex equipment is top notch, thanks for sharing:)

That thing looks like it would be great for a wheels-off detail, meaning cutting through the axles to get the wheels off.

Im sure it wouldn't bother this workhorse one bit.

How about a frame off detail!? Cut the frame from the body! lol

Very cool Mike! I can only imagine the "torque steer" of this guy when you turn it on, going from 0 to 6500RPM in no time. Nice equipment. Thanks for sharing Mike.

Damn.

Dual action machine. You can use it for grinding or banging in nails.

Very Cool Mike!, thanks for sharing.

In fact, this old Flex looks pretty similar to many 'Modern' tools we still see from other brands (not cite a name to avoid misunderstood, but...)

Congratulations to Flex being able to not only survive through all those years but in showing dramatic advances be it in tool mechanics, design and ergonomics.

Nice share!

Kind Regards.

Thanks Fausto! It's not as bad as you would think however it still gets up and going in a hurry.
