collinite 845. gone in 2 weeks

Your process appears to be sound but the actual reason why it didn't last is a mystery but then again, all waxes do not bond, they merely sit on the surface...

A few years ago, I had a Toyota Camry XLE that regardless of the prep, the beading would not last more than a couple of weeks. I tried everything and the only product which would last was one of the newer coatings...

Thanks, I haven't really tried applying coating in my ride, probably I'll test it out in a couple of weeks or so. What coating would you recommend?

With this combo, my collinite only lasted around 1 or less than 2 weeks and poof! Beading gone. I'm pretty sure its the Deep Crystal that did not let the Collinite bond with the paint.

There is no way that Deep Crystal Step 2 should have prevented the Collinite from bonding, it's primarily a wax (yes, it also has "resins" or whatever in there), DC2 is designed to precede a wax.

As everyone else has pretty much mentioned, there are 3 things that will result in no beading after two weeks:

1. Improper prep (Collinite does recommend one of their paint cleaners as a prep)

2. Dirt on the surface (pollen, etc.)

3. Washing with products that leave films behind (certain cheap car washes, dish soaps)

Something I found by Mike Phillips on the Megs forum concerning DC2/#7:

A wax, (natural or synthetic), is a substance that when applied to a surface will not adhere properly on its own. Thus, it is necessary to add specialized miscible oils to allow the waxy material to spread and adhere evenly to the surface. These oils along with polymers are responsible for improving the functionality of the wax protection, appearance, adherence and the overall application.

This means the addition of any Meguiar's polishes prior to the wax application will not only enhance the paint finish, but also aid in the appearance, adherence and overall lasting ability of the wax which is applied over the top of it.

I am curious to hear about your results with the BF product, I was under the impression it was brand new?

It's just another nice offering from Blackfire and goes on easily. The final results are always in the finish preparation but this product actually self-levels and seems to fill in some "minor" imperfections leaving a gorgeous hard gloss behind....

How has it held up?

I've used these with outstanding results...

^^^That's my impression as well!^^^

How did you... Nightforce...get it so much earlier
than the rest of us? "Beta Tester", or something?

So far so good. I used it on the nose of my Z06 which is covered and sleeping at the moment.
It be interesting to find out just how long it has been
since you used it on the nose of this vehicle.

Would you be so kind as to share that time period?
TIA.

I've had the coating for less than 2 weeks and applied it last weekend....No beta testing here, just bought the small size and compared it to a similar product not sold here however the writeup compelled me to give it a try...

I didn't read all the replies but in October I washed my wife's 2003 Subaru Outback with dawn. Clayed it, then used Croftgate Aquanil-X, Quick n Slick, and then a very thin coat of Collinite 845, buffed out by hand. We had a rough winter with a lot of ice & snow. Both always easily removed from the car. To this day 5 months later it still beads very well.

The effectiveness of the Collinite could be compounded by the base coat of Croftgate products, especially the Quick n Slick which acts like a sealant.

I guess the only way to find out is to redo my combination. Which means I get to re-polish my car! Im the MAN
