pick up some megs 5" DA foam discs and/or the B&S 5.5" flat foam pads (excellent on the DA). both have been great IME thus far...

The foams used in the CCS, and Flat lines generally seem to have an edge in durability, and are more forgiving to the newer user. They're proven, and they work.

Have you used the Hydrotech pads yet?

I started on megs pads years ago, then started with Buff and Shine manufactured Hex Logic pads when I got the Porter Cable.

The Green, Blue, and red are my favorite foams. I add extra cutting power with Rupes Microfiber pad if absolutely needed.

on the 6 pack deal they don't have the black finishing pads just the red ultra finish pad

I think it all depends on what you need as far as aggressiveness goes. I currently only have an orange and a black, but placed an order for an LC 6-pack: 1 orange, 2 white, 2 black, 1 blue. My 2014 Corvette is in pretty good shape so I don't thing I need anything more aggressive than orange.

Interesting though, I ordered the pads on 4/1 and AG still has not shipped them. I usually see my products from them ship the next day. I'll give them a few more days before I query for an update.

Would they be for your own personal use, or are you doing to do it as a business?

In my limited experience, I need more compounding and polishing pads, because I'd rather switch them out than clean them as often. I also wouldn't use an equal number of finishing pads. For example, I'd probably do 4-4-2; two fewer pads, but more each of a cutting and polishing pad.

I use the Rupes system and I mostly use their blue compounding pad and yellow polishing pad.

How bad is the paint? What kind of polishes are you using? It all plays a factor.

If you are buying 12 pads Id probably go with 4 white, 4 blue, 2 orange and 2 black. Black is more versatile and will probably work just as well with wax as the red will.

For personal use and I use Meguiars ultimate polish

I love Ultimate Polish with the blue pad.

Keep in mind that the Green, Blue, and Black foams are open celled. They tend to exhibit a cut of their own with the Green and Blue especially.

The Yellow, Orange, White, and Red are closed cell European Prepolymer. They tend to be smoother across the face as cut is achieved by their density, or their ability to more readily transfer pressure from the user to the paint.

I tend to prefer open cell pads, and gravitate towards the Green for cutting, Blue general polishing, Black Cleaner Wax, and Red for wax or sealant.

You'll notice that red pads are not available in the 4" and 6" sizes. Instead they offer a White super soft 100 pores per inch (ppi) fine finishing pad.
