Hey all, this is John from New Windsor, Maryland. 57 years old, have owned muscle cars from the big 3 all my life. Currently I have 3 vehicles, a red 2005 Mustang GT, a white 2007 Mustang GT/CS and 2014 Focus ST.

Each car needs a different approach to managing the finish, and I don't have a clue how to start. I wash, I wax or detail spray, and repeat as things get dirty.

The red Mustang is a weekend warrior. Formerly a race car since 2006, the finish is actually in pretty good condition, and now that it is once again streetable I take it to shows and day trip cruises with a Mustang club. It only sees rain like NEVER. I've used the old Turtle Wax Ice liquid wax product with great results. My goal--it turns heads with an outstanding, brilliant detail job inside and out.

The white Mustang is my daily driver, all seasons!!! I'm the second owner and it has some dents and dings that will one day require paint touchups or new bumpers someday, but otherwise a surprisingly nice finish that I manage to keep up with. Again, I wash and wax (usually a spray) and repeat. My goal--protect the car from the elements the best I can, but it has to go to work, rain or shine, even light snow and salty roads.

The Focus, the newest car driven daily by my better half, is in HORRIBLE shape. The Tuxedo Black finish has scratches and swirls, bugs embedded in the paint that don't yet come off with bug off products, and desperately needs stripped, polished and a great sealant/long lasting wax protective finish.

I do everything by hand but am open to picking up a rotary polisher. I use the typical over the counter products from Maguiers and TurtleWax although the latter I know is frowned upon by the detail pros.

I'm willing to spend money on good products, any ideas on how I can get all 3 cars starting from zero and kept on track? My guess is one car per weekend, rotating the daily drivers more or less as the red Mustang is usually kept as spotless as I can.

A lot there, maybe too much, but that's what I have!

Thanks you all.

Thanks, having owned everything from a '68 through fox bodies, SN95s, one new edge and even a 2011 5.0, for some reason these two are my faves...

Call Mike Lambert at the Shine Shop. His work is unbelievable, and he is one of the nicest guys. Always willing to help a fellow detailer with his advice. He has always been dead right on the advice he has given to me.
