He's coming home tomorrow.

Apparently bright and eating, I'm hoping to get him home and settled as soon as possible. It breaks my heart leaving him alone, likewise not having him follow me around, meeting me at the door, waiting for his afternoon treat, barking at the front door when the neighbor's cat walks through the garden.

Good news Deyon, I hate that you can't explain these things to them. When we had the restrictions a few years back, mine had to go inside individually for their check ups and shots while I waited outside, Buster was fine, but the look Ziva gave me, like you say, it breaks your heart, and that was only for 10 minutes. I felt better about it when the nurse brought her back out and told me she snapped at both of them, I said well she wouldn't do that if you let me come in.

Hooray!!!

As empathetic as dogs are, there are just times when they don’t understand why we aren’t there and that we are coming back

Nothing to show but my son that bought our house just reported that his two husky mix dogs just ran off a very large black bear

The house is located at the foot of Bear Mountain, do you can do the math…

Happy and on his way home...............

His gallbladder and liver are not great, which could be cancer or in my opinion, the result of a near lifetime on anti-seizure meds. He started having fits at about age 2 or 3, which was horrible to watch. Initially, the meds did nothing, but after changes, he has not had one in the last 5 years. That's not the focus at the moment though, its about making him comfortable and happy and we'll deal with what comes later.

He's an incredibly lucky dog, not everyone could sustain such ongoing medical bills, let alone two major surgeries in the last 4 years. I do wonder if I would ever put myself through such heartache again with another dog, but then I realise how much love and friendship they bring. I don't have children, but I do have a dog that depends on me, and surprisingly, that I depend on too.

He does look happy to be going home.

As Chilly said, one day at a time. We see a guy with a little white dog, Molly, on our walk some days, she was given 2 weeks to live almost 3 months ago, she's 14+ years old, and since she's been getting pain meds she's been pretty stable, eating her meals, no longer losing weight.

Edited to include a photo of Molly with Buster and Ziva, apparently they're the only 2 bigger dogs she doesn't try to bite, she doesn't feel threatened by them.

My poor little boy has been in the wars again.

He's been a little off for a few days now, but this morning he was breathing heavy and panting. So it was off to the vet, although not our normal vet as they no longer offer afterhours/weekend service after being sold out to a chain. Que an x-ray, then into theater with an obstructed/perforated bowel. Dog's are known to eat just about everything, but cockers instead inhale any food they can get their paws on, no matter what might be around said food.

Surgery went well, he woke up from anesthetic better than most I'm told. But there is some concern about his kidneys and gallbladder. The surgery itself was not an insignificant cost, but to deal with the gallbladder would be more than three times that cost, and I'd have to travel to Melbourne for it. I'm just hoping he pulls through, I'm just not ready to make "that" decision yet, not ready to say goodby.

Keep him and you in my prayers.

We pass this house on our walk almost every day, they have 4 border collies, it's a big yard so they have plenty of space. But if you look in the second pic, you can see the hierarchy, the one furthest to the right is the only one watching us, that is the alpha, the next one, behind the pot plant, is watching the alpha, and the youngest two are watching the beta. They're waiting for Buster to scent mark the pole they can see, then do the full body shake, then the alpha will start barking and racing around the yard, telling Buster how annoyed he is. It's a routine that happens almost every day.

with summer here (crazy hot!), please keep an eye on the four legged family members...

One of his favorite pastimes, ripping up the Coles bag...................

He's slowly getting better, today he was out in the garden barking at leaves, which is a good sign actually. Having said that, his age and the operation have made him slower and unsteady on his feet. But he's happy, and that makes me happy.

Why buy a paper shredder when you can just hand unwanted religious paraphernalia to your 11-year old Cocker Spaniel..................

Good boy!

I remember having 3 Young Liberals come to my door one day to try and convince me to vote for them at whatever election we were about to have, at the time I had Rosie, she was a big girl, and she was going off at them, one of them looked at her and said "oh shush", I just looked at him, looked at Rosie and said "good girl, good dog". They turned and left.

My nephew just bought his first house, so they can finally have pets now, he wanted a dog, everyone else wanted a cat, so they compromised, and got a cat, well, a kitten. Moshi already decided that hiding under the chest of draws is her safe place. I used my cat whispering skills to show that it's more fun to come out and play than to stay in hiding. She also loves watching his big screen TV.

This one is nobody's pet, but I saw this Red Belly Black while walking my dogs today. Really unusual seeing one out in the middle of winter.

Faaaaark that i hate snakes more than spiders. 410 shot gun round in a 6 shot pistol would solve the problem.

This one lives under the path it's next to in the photo, which is barely 10 metres from houses, and about 50 metres from a park where a lot of kids play. But Red Bellys are protected, so you can't kill them, or even move them, unless they're in your yard or, sphincter pucker time, in your house.

Ziva got within 50cm of it before I saw it and pulled her back, not that she was interested in it, but it didn't react to us walking by.

That's crazy! I hope it moves on and doesn't bite anything or anyone.

It's been there for years, I see it a few times a year, but usually just the head poking out from under the path. The last time I saw it was a few months ago, it was getting "busy" with another snake, that freaked the dogs out a bit, me too.
