My new GG Boss 15 review - more questions than answers

Look, it is competition and we should be happy! This forces people to step up the game and come out with new products. Guess who wins, we do!

I bought a G21 and knock off or not, it works great. I don't own a Rupes so, I can't can't comment but, people seem to like it. Whatever works for for you is what you should use.

I agree. Competition often leads to innovation and improvement of products. Without competition there is little incentive to try to improve a product. Griots basically says they improved upon other products with their polisher and products. I think it will be interesting to see how others counter.

And everything after the first airplane, gun and car are all knockoffs too. It's called progress. Lol.

Well, you are entitled to you opinion... But when a company (Rupes), comes out with a DA polisher with an unprecedented shape, trigger, and throw - and another company (Griot's), comes out with another DA with the exact shape , trigger, and throw - a lot of people would call it a knock off.

Griot's took the Rupes design right down to the millimeter - be it 15 or 21. How do you think that happened? They played it safe - and copied what Rupes' already proved as a winner. How much effort and R & D you think it took Rupes to come up with these numbers? You think they just threw darts at a board with numbers on it?

I'm sure the Griot's machines work great, but my feeling on it - is it's not 100% ethical.

Probably a lot of people don't care. But, maybe the next big tool maker (like Rupes), who is considering innovating a new machine for the detailing market may now just think twice.

I think the funniest part is how many people were up in arms beating their chests about the knock-offs but once griots releases one they are defending it and calling it progress! lol

Now I dont care about knock-offs as its the world we live in and thanks to Rasky's wonderful posts I ordered a g15 but havent used it yet.

Knocking off someone else's product is not something I approve, but improving on another product in my view is progress. Unlike some companies that will change the color, slap a new badge and put it in a new box and call it their own. Making a new mold would have cost a lot, but upgrading the counter balance, bearings, trigger, dial, cord, etc. for the better only makes a better machine. In turn the end user (customer) benefits.

I'm sorry, I try to stay away from replying to comments like these, but you've clearly not had both tools side by side, nor do I feel you've even taken the time to look closely at all the positive reviews online. Side by side the only thing on these tools that are the same is the size of the offset. The shroud may be very similar in shape as is the counterbalance, aside from that every feature of this tool is different and designed to be more comfortable and ergonomic. Griot's won't deny taking inspiration from the Rupes, but to sit here and say it an exact copy is just plain ignorant and holds about as much water as saying all cars are copies because they have 4 wheels.

....and that "unprecedented shape" just happens to be similar to every rotary polisher I've ever seen.

Looking at the excellent pics in haris300's review, I can't see how anyone can sit here and say it's a copy...

Sorry I sucked you into to responding to my sordid comments. But let's just agree to disagree.

I've never had the iPhone and the EyePhone side by side either - but it's clear to me which one is the knock off and which one is legit.

I've never said the Griot's machine is bad. To the contrary, I'm sure it's a great machine - like the GG6. I just feel like they ripped off Rupes. Doesn't seem ethical to me.

Sorry to the OP as this should be its own thread but, these tools are considered concepts unless it they are truely exact copies.

Swanicyouth, you are making a big claim saying the Griots is an exact copy when they clearly have different components. Have you bought both and truely determined that they are exact?

Regarding the throw, perhaps it is an attempt to come up with a standard length that works and provides other manufactures to build too as well. ie, 19",22",27",etc TV sizes.

Suggesting that Rupes will think twice. Think of your glass half full. Perhaps, they will put their head down and come up with a newer, better gadget!

All electronics change daily but it is all the same concepts.. Its the wy of the world.

You have a right to not like the Griots even if your opinion is based on uninformed and proven to be incorrect ASSumptions.

You even have a right to ignorantly call competition as unethical.

But with those rights come our right to just sit back and shake our head at people who pointedly choose to ignore all the facts that would show they are just plain wrong. It's the ostrich behavior. They are either purposely ignoring facts or are incapable on understanding the simple difference between two items.

Android phones should all just be banned from the market due to their copying iOS. And Samsung phones should be declared as 100% evil and UNETHICAL for copying the iPhone. And all those Dell computers that now try to look just like a MacBook should be banned front the marketplace. And think of all those headphone that are black and round! Oh! The chaos of it all!!

The arguments made by some of the posters trying to hijack this thread are beyond lame.

Sorry to the OP as this should be its own thread but,

Thanks pcar. Maybe all these posters looking to attack a machine based on their own misinformation can start their own post and let my review post stay on topic.

But I may be asking too much.

Yup, forums are tough. You had a pretty unbiased thread going and it was going good.

I design things for a living. Just to make the molds for the plastic body of the "knock off" was probably $50k+ so, let's not be too harsh here. Giots spent some cash. Its a nice machine.

I wish i had a dollar for design that was ripped of by my competitors.. It just fuels our passion to make a better mouse trap.

.

Thank you. I tried to be fair and honest. I am not a "fan boy" of any particular brand or design and call it as I see it.

The Boss is a great unit that has clearly been thought out and is a joy to use. And there are other brands and units that are also great. I never claimed the Griots was the best unit ever.

I respect Griots for not simply copying a design but truly taking the time to understand how to deliver a significantly improved design and how to deliver an excellent unit at a competitive price point.

My apologies to AG and Griots that by default they have been dragged into this. I really thought certain people on this forum could act like mature adults and accept my review in the simplicity it was presented.

The GG isn't a copy of the Rupes. The DAS6 Pro Plus and DAS 21e are copies of the Rupes. The GG inturn is a copy of the DAS. Google it and see for yourself, power output, design, everything the same. The DAS was out a year before the GG, GG just chose different colours and a BOSS badge upfront.

I did not post this review for bashing Rupes, Griot's, Flex or any other company. It was meant to highlight my PERSONAL experience using the Boss vs the Flex.

You started the thread, pushed your own agenda and whine like a little ##### when people respond accordingly. You disgust me,

LOL. Allll righty then. LOL.

My point about some of the members on this board was just proven beyond reproach.

LOL

No - I don't think they should be banned. I just think they suck. That's why I buy Apple. Sorry it's my right to just buy the real stuff.

Yes, I think the Griot's long throw machines are unethical. Call me ignorant. I don't care. The 3401 is competition and engineering. - the "Boss" is a copy.

Can you tell me one product or class of products Griot's innovated?

Lemme give you some examples:

Pinnacle - Souverän - top easy to use show car wax that doesn't cost 3 bills

CarPro: Iron X / Rayon Glass Pads / coatings

Daytona: Wheel Brushes

Tuff Shine: First real tire coating that works

Optimum: rinseless wash / ONR / coatings

BlackFire: first wax (only?) designed to be layered over a sealant

Megs: Duh.

Flex: direct drive DA polisher

Dodo Juice: color charged waxes

Metro: Master Blaster

Collinite: Cheap waxes, show looks, ridiculous durability.

p21S: MSR, polishing soap, first "safe" wheel cleaner.

Rupes: long throw polishers, pads, and polishes - engineered to work together. First DA designed for the detailing market from the ground up that wasn't a knock off of a wood sander.

Griot's:

?

I'm only asking for one....

As a neutral onlooker I'd like to say that you haven't exactly taken the high road in numerous of your responses. You seem to be oblivious to that. So you are as much to blame for the direction the thread took as any of the people you blame.

Wow. Jrock, I really, truly feel sorry for the mental demons you fighting right now.

I hope you find your way out and can find some peace and happiness. Life is too short to go through it so miserable and unhappy as you clearly are.

I sincerely wish you the best, my friend. I really do.

Bug barricade. A spray on product that goes over existing wax or sealant that is water soluble so that when you wash your car (or it rains), the barricade falls off taking the bugs with it. I can't think of another product that does that.

Sorry, Wolfs had it first. "The Mask".
