Prep trim before WETS?

Hey guys. I'll be washing my Xterra today and want to apply WETS afterwards on my plastic bumpers/trim. I do not have a dedicated APC and wondered if I could just use Dawn dish soap to thoroughly wash those areas? Or maybe a mix of dawn and regular car wash soap? If it's not a good idea to do that, can anyone recommend a good APC that I can buy local? I have the typical auto parts stores and Wally World here in town. I would like to get this done today so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks fellas.
 
Do you have any IPA? Probably what you should do is go to the store and get some of the Mother's Back to Black Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner. I'd rinse after that and wipe down with some IPA.
 
Hey mires. If you can get the mothers trim cleaner, go for it. Or a dollar store for some general APC would do. Are you doing the roof plastics too? I did all mine up there. The roof basket etc. PITA, but with WGTS you only have to do it 1-2 times a year max. Good luck. It will take time to do all the xterra plastics, but so worth it!

This is the only IPA I have and no way am I wasting it on my car :laughing:

I think I will probably just make a trip to town to get some IPA and Mother's trim cleaner. Can you recommend an APC that I can buy locally as well? I'm not sure I'll be able to find anything worth buying but you guys would definitely know better than me.

Hey buddy. You must have some 6th sense that alerts you when anything Xterra related is posted :D

Yup, I am breaking out the Werner platform to work on the wet box and all the brackets up there. I draw the line at the INSIDE of the basket though lol. I know it will make a big difference and be worth it so I am just going to suck it up and do it.
 
Go to the dollar store and get some LA Totally Awesome degreaser.

I think that's LA Totally Awesome--I have never used it. A lot of people like the Zep cleaners that you can get at Home Depot--never used them, either, didn't like the label warnings particularly.

I'm really trying to think/search what might be at Pep Boys/Advance/Auto Zone...looks like Simple Green or there is an Armor All APC. Really, that Mothers stuff is pretty good but IMO you have to rinse it, it definitely leaves a residue if you don't.
 
Now when you guys say "The Dollar Store", are we talking about Dollar General, Family Dollar or Dollar Tree? I have them all here but are all kinda far apart.

Thanks. I Googled it and found it on the Dollar Tree website which tells me they sell it there. Just happens to be the closest one to me too. Sounds trivial but It takes me about 20 minutes to get to "town" so I would rather not drive around to each one of them if I don't have to lol. I wish it wasn't so dang hot and humid today so I could get motivated to get out there.
 
Listening to Larry Kossila's podcast with Jason Rose of Meguiar's, they stated that one can use the car wash soap you are using with a little brush while you are washing the car.

I typically use APC.

The Dollar Store carries LA Awesome.
 
Alright, got some of the Awesome sauce from the dollar store. Not sure how much to dilute it though?
