Rupes Mini vs. GG 3"

GG6 and get a LC 3.5 BP and 4" Pads, then you have 2 tools in one.

You guys are comparing a tool that costs 3 times the price of the other. That's not a realistic comparison for most of us weekend duffers.

I'm throwing my 2 cents in, I just got a Rupes mini a couple of weeks back. worth every penny I had been using the PC for smaller pads. I can't believe how I lived without the machine. If it were me I would save until I could pop for it, don't cheat yourself and get any thing else trust me. Also got a Rupes 15 another home run, needless to say the PC which served me well is gone.

Unless you run a nail salon the gg3 is useless.

It won't correct anything. In fact I have tried to sell my practically new unit and have zero takers. It's useless for paint correction.

Not true, I restore headlights with it all the time, you get what you pay for and I have done minor paint corrections with it.

The GG3 isn't designed to do major paint corrections. That said, when I do need to do paint correction on a small, tight area and need my GG3, well, I put on a flat mf pad from LC and it works fine for my needs but then again it never been anything too major.

I'd like to do a full correction with the mini Rules just to see if it can be done, seeing is believing.

Of course he did. Next, let's discuss if an S-class Mercedes is a better car than a Camry. :xyxthumbs:

The 3" GG on it's own merits is one thing, but comparing it to a tool in a grossly different price point seems moot.

How about this?

There are a few people here who seem to think the GG 3" has some use. To those of us without $300 to drop on a new high-end 3" RO, is it worth the $99?

I would be using something like this for a final buff & polish to a fresh polyurethane clear coat on painted racing helmets after a final 2000g wetsand to remove imperfections and tape edges.

Can it handle something like that?

The reason I ask, I already have the GG3 and its not performing as I expect. Is the extra $200 worth the expense? I don't mind paying for quality, but I don't want to drop the extra money if I don't get a return for the expense.

Get a PC with a 3" blacking plate is more useful. The gg3 is a waste of money. I use mine 1x a year to clean leather seats with a brush mounted. If I could have sold it I would have. It is useless. Meaning useless for paint correction.

Guess I'm in the minority, I have the GG3 and the GG6, I like the GG3. I can't compare it to the Rupes, but it works for what I need it for. I have used it to correct a hood and it worked fine. I'm sure the Rupes is great, but IMO the GG3 isn't chopped liver.

Have you tired the Mini? If you did, you would use your GG3 to chop liver.:props:

I have the GG 6" & 3". I am not a pro, but I have done my wife's car and my truck and currently on my boat. I have to say that the 3" is just a noisy vibrator. It does okay with a polish & wax but forget compounds with this thing. I am hoping that Griots will have a mini 3" Boss or adapter at the Sema show.

If you're going to use the Rupes Mini more than a couple of time a year, then it's definitely worth the $200 premium over the GG3. I use it any time I'm compounding or polishing a whole car or even if I have to do some spot work for a bird bomb or RIDS. It works quickly and smoothly and I don't regret buying it for a second. The only tool I might still add is a Flex PE-8 for areas that are even to small or intricate for a DA. I used to think you should buy one or the other but now I realize they are two different tools that will complement each other.
